Should I go for a fat console in case my slim breaks?

If ever my Version 14 slim breaks(fuse, laser, etc.), should I buy a fat or get another slim? I'm already thinking of changing for a fat since I have recently been experiencing BAD heat issues, both when the console is flat and when it positioned vertically, and even if it's in the vertical position, the fan accelerates at either the same time or several seconds later than if it were flat. I had seen at a store a fat PlayStation 2 for sale and asked if there was anything different besides the size. He told me that the slim is more efficient, but has some pretty bad problems with heat. The one that was there is an SCPH-50010/N, either a Version 9 or 10(didn't see the date code, but the sticker was not in the back of the console, but on the side). I also seem to prefer the fat's bulkier look, and is not as heavy as I thought it was. So, if my current console breaks, slim or fat?
