Hi folks

I was wondering that if I installed a 5400rpm hdd instead of a 7200rpm into my xbox, would I notice a huge reduction in load times.

It's just that I can get a 5400 250gb Maxtor for about £58, as opposed to about £74 for a 7200.

Thanks in advance

I suggest to get the 7200. The other one is very slow. Plus it is the big hdd.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought that might be the case, but no harm in asking I guess.

it's been proven time and time again that a 7200 RPM has no faster data transfer over the 5400 RPM (only in regards to an XBOX, not a PC high speed PC). larger cash buffers give a faster initial burst transfer but then slows right back down........ the advantage is the bearings in the 7200 RPM make it run cooler which is a definite advantage in your box.

Thanks KC, I installed a bigger fan into my box and it runs pretty cool now, but I suppose for all the difference in price, if the 7200 is likely to run better because of the bearings then that is probably my best bet.

Thanks again

it's defiantly worth the price difference, heat is the life destroyer of electronics and anything you can do to reduce the heat prolongs life.
