First I would like to thank everyone on this site that has already even attempted to help me. Thanx. Ok now, my questions are in regard to connecting a HDD to my PS2 and how to operate the whole damn thing. So... First question, what are all the tools and software that I will be needing to make this work? I read somewhere on these forums that to transfer games from my PC to my PS2 HDD that I would need a IDE cable adapter, How true is this? Also I would like to know if I could transfer burnt games to my HDD? Any and all help with my problemas will be greatly appreciated. Please someone help me, I really want to use the HDD for the PS2 to save my laser from the River Styx. LoL. Thanx in advance to anyone willing to share their knowledge.

If you would have used the forums search, you would have found that this thread : http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/252193 has al the answers you might need, and you wouldn't have had to make another thread on a question that was asked several times before.

Well thank you The_Fiend. No I have to say I rarely use the forum search. I find it more helpful to ask the questions on a thread and get help by anyone willing to help. Cuz if I have a problem understanding someone's tutorial, then anyone that is willing to help will make me understand before they leave. As for the tutorial I'm just stuck with the same info. Well anywayz thank you for replying and providing the link. I will check it out and see how it helps me. But I hope that anyone who is willing to reply and provide any helpful info. does so and understands that I am greatful for any help I get. Again Thanx in advance.

In other words, your too lazy to take some time and look if someone might have answered it already, or to read the tutorial and use those brains, and rather be spoonfed?
Cause that's what it looks like to me.

No I do quite a bit of searching before I even come to the afterdawn forums. Dude there is no need to get pissy. I had enough respect to thank you and not diss on you, so I expect the same from you. How old are you? Anyway I'm not trying to argue with you. I checked out the link you provided. I did see some stuff regarding some of my problems but all of my questions were not answered by that link. I did in fact find a few guides as to how I should transfer games via USB enclosure as I might get one seeing as it seems a bit easier than any of the other methods I've read for transferring games to the PS2 HDD. Again anyone who can help me I will appreciate it. Thanx.

One of the reasons i respond the way i do is that you give us no information whatsoever on what you have/know, like:
what kind of ps2 you have, no details of what you know, what hdd you have, if you have any software, etc etc.

And as for thanks/respect, you will get my respect the moment you realise that :

1) the more info you provide, the more answers we can provide
2) allmost all info on this particular topic can be found in the ps2 hardware/software forums and the safety valve, with some searching.

So what is the use in posting a new thread. Aftredawn should have a rule where Tutorials or only allowed. Dude if you do not feel like helping me then don't waste your time. As for not providing enough. info. Yeah I have to admit I was wrong in not providing enough info. But that's why I stated in the first post that I would like to know ALL the tools and software I will be needing and that is pretty much self-explanatory. Reading Comprehension is a very good talent to attain. Dude i'm just bein' a dick now. Please don't take it the wrong way. I'm a noob and I'm still getting used to these forums. I mean I think this is like my tenth time posting. It's just I never had any complaints about not searching the forums, usually people are willing to help out. Sorry you feel like everyone should be an expert from birth. LoL. Soooo... Here are my specs. I have a PS2 v5/6... I am recieving a 200GB IDE Maxtor HDD... I have a network Adapter... I have HDLoader the patched version but just the .elf file, no actual HDLoader disc. I do have 2 .iso's... 1 of HDADvance 3.0 and One of HDLoader. I hope this is enough info about what I have as far as trying to Play PS2 games using my HDD and for transferring PS2 games via the PC. If I need something that you do not see listed I would appreciate it if you let me know what I shall be needing, Thanx in Advance.

Sice you seem know the meaning of the words meaning comprehension, i take it i don't have to tell you off about properly reading what i said then?

As for the not so smart remark about me feeling that everyone should be an expert from birth, all i'll say is that i gave you a link to a thread that a list of things you will need.

But just to get you your answer and be done with it :
You will need a modchip, swapmagic, or memory card exploit to be able to boot those .iso's of said harddisc utilities (the thread i linked to before has all the info on those things), and you should check if the hdd you are getting is compatible, by looking here : http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/ .

you might also need a program that will allow you to ftp from your pc to your ps2, which there are several of to be found here : http://www.exploitstation.com/index.php?page=downloads .

had enough?

LoL... Thanx man. That is a funny pic. Dude sorry i forgot to mention that I do have Swap Magic 3.6 and a slide tool. But anyway is there anyway I can use the USB ports on the PS2 to actually transfer games from the PC to the HDD? Or would I be able to transfer the games through the network adapter? Thanx again. I don't mind sarcasm because I can see where you are coming from but if I know something that someone don't I am not the type of person to say, " Well I learned by finding out on my own." I'll actually take the time to help the person out the best I can. I am more interested in the quickest way I can get my games from the PC to the HDD. Oh yeah and is it possible to take a game I have already burned and use DVD Decrypter to make an .iso and transfer it to my HDD? Well anywayz if you could answer those questions for me I would appreciate it. Thanx and I hope there is no hard feelings cuz I don't have any. Thanx in advance. Peace.

You'd have to use the network card, the usb can't be used for this (which shouldn't be a problem though, the ethernet connection is a lot faster anyway), and you'll need crossover cable, since you are basically hooking 2 computers together. As for those backups, just use decrypter to put make iso's out of the discs and then transfer those to the ps2.

You'll need a Network Adapator

HDLOADER & Winhiip Which you can find here
http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=hd.html

You hook your Hard drive to your computer and use Winhiip to install the games..

and to create a Memory Card Exploit you'll need a PS1 Game and
indepence compiler 3.0 which you can find here
http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=exploit.html

I would personally rather use hdldumb and hdldump, than having to connect the damn hdd to the pc every time i get a new game, but to each his own i guess.

Well you can install games directly through your PS2. if it's an Orig all you need to do is insert the game and click install and HD Loader will install it ..

installing Backups this way can be tricky... inject disc in PS2 and replace with a larger TOC disc wait about 15 to 30 sec for it to read the disc then use your slide card or fliptop and exchange for backup click install and it should install ..

If you want the absolute hands down best option then get a DMS4 Pro chip installed.
It has many features related to the HDD such as:
1. can format a HDD
2. can load games onto the HDD from the drive
3. can boot directly to the HDD instead of to the main PS2 menu
4. has a built in cheat device so you can play games from the HDD with cheats and there is no need to buy a cheat disk like Gameshark or AR Max
5. has a greater game compatibility that the HD Loader because it's built in HD Loader is newer and is updated for free at least once a year by downloading free flash upgrades for you chip.
6. you can select a custom UDMA or MDMA transfer mode. This should help with installing games on PSTwo machines.
7. Compatibility fixes for playing games from the HDD. Games such as AFL Premier 2005, Jak X, Shadow Of The Colossus are now supported.
8. Run DVD-9 games from the HDD
9. 48-bit HDD support to enable the use of larger drives
10. V12 IDE HDD support
11. Auto-ATAD patching for HDD-enabled games
12. Support for the HDD browser upgrade on a non-Sony HDD
13. and last but not least the chip has a set of very useful tools you can install on the HDD called ToxicOS Megapack.

hopefully there are enough reasons there for you

Thanx for the all the info. Nowlet me star by saying that I don't own a PS1 game so that optionis out the window. Yeah and I read about having to connect the HDD to the PC to transfer games and it would be just to much of a hassle for me. I'm gonna let you guys in on a little secret of mine, I'm a paraplegic. Yeah so it would take to much work and I would need someone around to help me lift up the PC, etc., etc. As for getting a chip installed, I contacted the Team Modders and they never got back with me so... I'm not gonna keep trying to reach them. I already have Swap Magic and it's working fine. The only thing I'm worried about is the laser so that's why I thought I'd invest in a PS2 HDD. And I am looking for the quickest way possible to get games from my PC to my PS2 HDD. I read HDLoader will do it but it takes like 20-30 mins., that's kinda a long time to have to wait before you can play a game. The_Fiend so what you are saying is that it is possible to use the PS2 Network Adapter as long as I have a crossover cable? And a network card I believe my PC has one because I have DSL and my modem connects through the Ethernet connection. Does that mean that I have a network card? I'm gonna try and search for HDL_Dump and see exactly how it works. Well Thank everyone for replying. I appreciate the help. If you still have some more info., please share it with me.

Since you took my advice and did your homework, i'll give you some tips : The exploitstation link i gave you has the programs you will need (hdldump and hdldumb), just scroll down the page.
The site should also have guides on how to use them, if they aren't included with the software (but i'm pretty sure there are user manuals included with the downloads).
And yes, with your current setup, you have all you need to do this, except maybe the Crossover cable (also called a cat5 cable)

Yeah, it should just work.
If not, get a specific crossover cable.
Should be widely available and pretty cheap.
