The first question was how exactly do you brick your PSP, that was well covered in the other thread. I had another question related to this now:
If my PSP does brick will I be able to fool the people at best buy or eb games and return it in exchange for another claiming it was defective? Would it be impossible to send in to sony at this point? I'd appreciate any input, thank you for your time.

It wouldnt be impossible to fool the EB Games or best buy but it is impossible for the sony thing

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BRICK YOUR PSP[/caps], the only way you will do that is if you derectly violate and try to run flash, downgrading will not do anything, I've done it more then 50 times....to answer your question yes, call Sony and say for some reason it shut down when you were upgrading and they will send you a brabd new one.

Steps to bricking a PSP:

1. Get a brick
2. Hit the psp with it untill it won't run any longer

Congratulations, your psp is now bricked.

The flash is your psps internal memory, its like your computers bios
if the bios gets stuffed the computer wont start.
When you do tweaks to the psp eg button swapping or changing wallpaper (on 1.5s) you are writing to the flash meaning if sumthing happens while your writing, your GONE!

if u downloaded the downgrader from psp-hacks and follow the steps, theres a 99% chance it will succeed. im giving the 1% if a little brother/sister goes up and unplugs the power cord, a miraculous blackout occurs, lightning hits ur psp, pet eats it, tidal wave, etc... as long as you follow the steps ^_^ . read all the steps first THEN do them
