DVD shrink is not a burning app. I would imagine you are either using Nero or DVD Decrypter to burn the movie. The error you are getting usually happens during the intial analyzing stage, or the transcoding stage.

That usually means that...

1. DVD Shrink Cannot crack the disc, because of the fact that devolopment has stopped.

Or,

2. It hates your discs. Could be bad presses, but I really think that it is #1...

Try Slysofts AnyDVD. It works like a charm. Or if you like freebees, go with DVDFab decrypter. It will handle all ripping needs, and is updated frequently.

Out of date software for handling newer copyright protection. - Covered.

Get AnyDVD. - Covered
Pay attention to the ripper included that incorporates FixVTS.

FixVTS
Good freeware for fixing problem files for compliance.

Hmm... hates your discs. Could be if you've been using scratched up and smudged discs.

Cyclic redundancy occurs when a DVD can't be read, whether from DVD physical condition, drive problems, or copyright protection.

Before going further, make sure the optical head is clean and the discs are in decent shape (clean and polished). If there's a question about a disc, do a read scan. DVDInfoPro (freeware) can be used if no software is available to do the scan.

Can't say anything better than what was already said. These boys answered everything completely.

All in all, proper maintenance will help you with your backup process. This includes quality media, firmware updates, minimizing processes during the backup process etc. But I digress...

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie
