Hi,

I made a dvd from some avi files but it is not recognisable on my stand alone dvd player. I burnt the dvd onto a dvd-RW but when I put it into my Panasonic DMR-ES10 it comes up with the error "Unsupported format".
However, when I take the same disc and put it in a dirt cheep compacks dvd 800 and a Phillips dvdr 610 stand alone player it plays perfect. It also plays perfect on my pc's NEC 3500AG.

I'm using Verbatim 6x dvd-rw and Verbatim x4 dvd-r.
The Panasonic dmr-es10 can play backed up original movie discs on the above mentioned media.
The AVI's are NTSC and I selected NTSC in the encoding software.

I used a programme called Diko to do the encoding and authoring.

I then went and did another copy using WinAVI video converter and the same thing happens. It works on the compacks, phillips and pc but not on the panasonic.

I then used a dvd-r disc with the same results again.

The other problem I now have is that I can't erase the data on the RW discs. When I put it in the pc it says "Disc is not re-writable. Please insert re-writable disc" (maybe becuase they were set to book type dvd-rom?). I was using RW's so if I did make a mistake I could re-use them, but it's saying I cant!

I would be grateful for any help on these.
Many thanks.

I presume you have either an NTSC or multi-region DVD player?

yep I have a multi region player that plays NTSC. I just find it a bit weird that I can play my backed up movies on the player but, using the exact same verbatim discs I cant play dvd's I've made from AVI files. which makes me beleive it's something I'm doing wrong rather than the player.
