I have been using DVD Shrink for awhile and this is my first problem. I burned King Kong and then tried to use the copy to make an additional copy and it gives the cyclic redundancy error, but when i open the files that were saved from the intial burn on my hard drive it burns fine. Then after a complete burn for the second time i use the second copy and receive the same error. I have used this type of media before and never had a problem any suggestions

Thanks In Advance

You've got the files already on your harddrive and 2 backup copies have crc errors when trying to re-rip them?

The likely culprit is media quality.

Please explain your media-which is the discs that you can't re-rip: Brand name/format/speed rate/how fast it was burned/what program burned it/paper-sticker label/etc. Exact MID codes would be helpful for the backups that are ok and these that give you crc errors. Some brand names of media can drastically change manufacturers between spindles/pack sizes.Memosux is the main brand.

What's your burner's brand name and model#?

Did you change anything with your media, like different spindle/format/ or quantity package?

King Kong had nothing special, encryption wise. This crc error you are getting is because you have major errors on your backup discs.Media quality/burn speed/burner quality/paper-sticker labels just a few causes.

Another thing I found out: Slow burning of quality media like Verbatim +16x gives me crc errors at a 2.4x burn. 4x is ok,but still way too many PIF errors than my 12x backups of the same media. Too fast of burning on crap media can do the same thing. The answers to all those questions will help narrow it down.

There's ways of getting through those crc errors for when you want to make extra copies of your backups. DVD Decrypter Mode ISO read and write. Change a couple settings like: CSS-Brute force and I/O- Ignore all read errors. But you've got something major wrong if DVD Shrink can't re-rip one of it's own backups.

I use Memorex dvds. I've never had a problem with them and I usually get them for 50 for $15

$15 a 50 pack for memosux cmags? Too pricey for me ! LOL.

Memosux is loaded with cmag media. Just like HP/TDK/and Philips. If you want a great price on cmags, Try the Staple's Teons when they go on sale. Then they are about 10 cents apiece, which is more like it.

I'll stick with my $15 a 50 pack sony/fuji tys/maxell hitachi's/ or verbatim +16x mitsubishi's.

I'm about as cheapo as they come.

I use no frills http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=316... Have done so for about 4 years. I have close to 1000 backups and never had a problem with any of them.

Is there a particular reason for using higher priced media? Without being able to justify it, the old lady won't let me buy them.

Who is that shadowy figure?

pntyliner ,
The reason people use the better quality media is because of the dye that is used. Also the cheaper media has got problems w/ quality control and playability w/ some of the DVD Players.
I do understand where you are coming from as everyone has to keep the better half happy. If you are in the US look for the BestBuy adds on Sunday as they sell Verbatim 16X 50-$19.95 or less. They also sold Memorex for 50-$25.00. I never did figure that one out

mojoe,
Some people do not have problems w/ Memorex but when you do a PI/PO scan of the burned media you will see why they are called Memosux. The scans are usually terrible. So if you are happy w/ the Memorex then by all means use them
