ive been burning for like the past 6 months non stop, three movies every two days or so. I just burned one last night and then when i open up dvd shrink today it will analyze up to 90% and just stop and then my dvd burner will make like a buzzing noise. The error then reads something about the rest is encrypted. i have a dell inspiron 6000 and i havent upgraded my firmware since i started. could this be the problem??? and if so what firmware should i get?

engernd ,
Welcome to the forum,
If you are using Shrink by itself then you might start running into problems as it has not been updated it 2 years. Use DVDFAB Decrypter ( free) to rip the movie to HD and then use Shrink or use AnyDVD($39.00) w/ Shrink. If you want to do the newer movies below is a guide that you can use. It was written by one of the member's here and you can also substitute Shrink for Recode. Firmware updates help the burner recog the blank media being used

Alkohol's Guide:

If you use shrink with the files fabdecripter made then you will still be able to fit the movie on one disk.

engernd ,
Shrink works but w/ the new encryptions it does need help. This is why you use DVDFAB Decrypter and if needed VobBlanker and then you use Shrink. You can also use AnyDVD by itself along w/ Shrink. What was not updated in Shrink was the encryption algorithim. This is why you use DVDFAB Decrypter

engernd,
You said you wanted an app that will put the files on your HD and that is what DVDFAB Decrypter will do. You then use Shrink next. Do you want programs that cost $$ that will compress the movies. If so try CloneDVD or CloneDVD 2 or Nero

I've seen some members mention the author of Shrink is an employee with Nero.

Does anybody have any kind of communication?

Maybe somehow or another the source code could be, lets say "Borrowed" and a group effort can be formed to resurrect shrink from it's confinement in the doledrums of infinite space? Shrink and the first version DVD Decrypter were exactly this anyway weren't they? Basically a group of people who put their heads together to build what turned out to be basically the best software available?

But, then there is this:

http://www.download-it-free.com/dvdshrink/

Has the code been sold? I only use shrink to edit and burn. This claims to be the exact same product, updated to current specs. I don't really want to pay for something to find out it really isn't what I want. I'm all about downloading and supporting via some sort of donation effort.

Who is that shadowy figure?

pntyliner,
Last anyone heard Shrink was not sold but who is to stop someone from using the app and then changing the GUI. There are programs out there if I remember correctly that use Shrink's info and then changed the GUI and charged for it. If you want to pay for something then by all means do so. But I would spend the $$ on AnyDVD and then use that w/ Shrink to do the movies.

Hi @Car.Mike. I definitely use AnyDVD in conjunction with Shrink. I never thought of the idea you mentioned. Guess you're right. But it would be nice if the Shrink/Decrypter saga could continue. Oh well!

engernd,
You can d/l the free copy DVD-Rebuilder ver.097 but be warned if you system is marginally it will take a while to do the DVD but the results are outstanding. It will take you a while to get used to it and it does require a little more knowledge of dvd burning than just the 1 click programs:

Another you can try is Burn4free and it is below. I have never used this one so good luck

engernd,
I would consider d/l a free registry cleaner and clean the registry. If you still have problems I would just re-format the HD and re-load everything new. It might be s lot quicker than trying to figure out what is wrong w/ your computer as Shrink quit on you and DVD-Rb gives you errors. This leads me to believe there is something causing a conflict on that computer. It might be software or hardware but I would bet on hardware
