We have to support the providers of the software in order to keep the dream alive. I saw somebody say it's only really the cost of a tank of gas, $39.

To successfully rip and backup "The Chronicles of Narnia", use the following tools. Yes... most of my recommendation tools are FREE and it has been proven to work 100% flawlessly.

<<< My Primary Method (some tools are NOT FREE) >>>

(1) DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker - to rip and post process the VIDEO_TS.IFO for "security" or free of junks (i.e to filter out "invalid data structure, invalid navigation or any left over dummy cells/junks).
(2) DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP - to encode (the best encoder + best quality)
(3) Nero Burning Rom - to burn

<<< Method 2 (Free) >>>

(1) DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker
(2) DVD Shrink - to transcode
(3) DVD Decrypter - to burn

<<< Method 3 (Free) >>>

(1) DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker
(2) DVD Shrink - to transcode
(3) ImgBurn - to burn

<<< Method 4 (Free) >>>

(1) DVD Decrypter + PSL plugins (PgcEdit) + FixVTS
(2) DVD Shrink - to transcode
(3) DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn - to burn

<<< Method 5 (retail) with AnyDVD >>>

(1) rip/transcode with whatever tool(s) you have with AnyDVD running
(2) burn with your desire engines

Best of lucks to all and happy burning!!

I've tried DVDFAB Decrypter and then ran VobBlanker on it. Everything seemed to go fine with no errors. The problem is that DVD Shrink keeps getting errors (invalid access to memory location) when trying to analyze the files created by VobBlanker... the same errors that I was getting when I first tried to use DVD Shrink on it without DVDFAB decrypter and VobBlanker.

Any other ideas?

This has by far been the toughest copy for me yet! ;)

If you want to do this with free programs, all you need is Shrink, DVD Decrypter and DVDFab Decrypter(ver.2.9.7.5 is current). Run it through DVDFab Decrypter first. Then use Shrink to open files, I then select reauthor and main movie only, and select auto burn with Decrypter.

I choose to put this on two disks without any compression.

Here are some helpful guides:

Narnia is so easy, all one needs to do is rip it with DVD Decrypter in the ISO mode and then open the image in Shrink and transcode. Burn with whatever app you like, easiest with supported burners. File mode contains an error that prevents the quick analysis from processing and sticks the app.

Thanks for the help. It did work great with DVD Decrypter and Shrink. My problem was that I used DVD FAB Decrypter (didn't have an ISO option). I didn't know they were 2 different apps.

Anyways, thanks again.

Were you using the latest version of the DVDFab Decrypter? I thought they had it updated to handle the new copyright protection. Though this one had very little. It was almost as easy as King Kong, which can be done with Shrink alone. Even if DVDFab wasn't doing the job completely, as long as you get a complete rip you can process for compliance with FixVTS.

I really don't know if it was the latest version or not. I had never used it before and just downloaded it to try Narnia. Also have never used FixVTS. King Kong did work with Shrink alone for me as well. I'm somewhat new at this and so far pretty much everythings worked for me with Shrink alone (minus 1 or 2 titles where I've had to d/l something specifically recommended.)

Hi all,

This method produced an excellent working backup:

1) DVDFAB (latest version) rip to HD
2) Shrink, re-author main movie only
3) Burn with DVDD

Narnia was one of the easier backups. Most any method with updated software will do the trick. As for King Kong, it was so easy a person only needs Shrink. Most of the transcoders with decryption software have an easy time with it. Narnia and King Kong were gifts as far as copyright protection is concerned. I suspect a lot of people post on these 2 just to have something to say.

Narnia is so easy, a person can use DVD Decryter in ISO to rip, transcode with Shrink and then burn with DVD Decrypter. All free. Of course the AnyDVD is nice. Not all releases will be as easy as this one. I have it and it's well worth the price.

Yes, I cheated and use AnyDVD lol. It's the best 39 bucks you can spend on software.

Anyway, very simple backup. Shrink to compress and then Decryptor to burn did the job!

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

3. uncheck director commentary
4. back up

i just couldn't get the menus and features for some reason but that was ok with me.

Menus won't work in Reauthor using Shrink. Menus only function in Full Disc.

Added note: DON'T USE AnyDVD 6.0.0.4 WITH CLONEDVD2 WITH CHRONICLES OF NARNIA. It doesn't work! Try AnyDVD with DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15! This works. Also, this may not apply to everyone but, AnyDVD 6.0.1.1 with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 & DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 doesn't work!

Wish I'd seen this thread before I wasted a day on Narnia...

In the end, I DVDdecryter'd the files to HD (took a couple of goes) made a Nero Image of full size DVD files, mounted this on a virtual DVD drive, and happily DVDshrink reauthored - trim the end credits, the Disney splash off the front end, and didn't even need compression.

Mor'n'good enough to keep the animals (read "my much adored kids") away from the original...
