Anyone seen any ELFs that can boot PS1 backups? IF so can those backups be booted from a HDD? Any Links or data would be helpful.

I wish it was possible, but no one has done it yet. The reason why you can't run PSX backups off of a HDD is because of how the PS2 runs games itself.

The PS2 runs in two different modes (PSX and PS2). When you insert a PSX game, your PS2 will emulate a PSX and run your game. Same thing when you insert a PS2 game. Once you are in one mode the PS2 cannot switch to another.

Programs like HDLoader run on PS2 mode codeing. If you try to run an image of a PSX game on HDLoader, your PS2 wont understand all the junk it's getting fed.

I guess the only way that it would be possible to run a PSX game on a HDD would be to have an HDLoader that would boot into PSX mode. Another route would be to have an emulator that would emulate the PSX and run your PSX images. That would be kind of funny right... having a console that would emulate something that it can already do... What would the XBOX guys think. :)

yah that would be truely funny. Thanks for the info. Anyone seen a HDD Patch for God of War? I have the crunched 4.7 G version but I also have my orignal 8.xG ISO. I used H_Dump and put it on the HDD drive and as explained and outlined it fails to load anything on the 2nd layer.

What version of HDLoader are you using? Also, where did you get your copy of GOW? There are numerous threads on GOW too. Trust me, any questions you've asked have already been covered.
