Ok,I'll try to make this simple.I've had my PS2 for a a year now and have begome a VERY big SOCOM US Navy Seal freak,as I was in the Navy myself(not a seal),but I just noe decided I would like to connect the internet and play online. When I plugged my PS2 straight into my cable modem(PS2 has the built in network adapter),and run all the menus, using Auto Configuration, then when I get to test connection it say connection failed.I tried rebooting my cable modem, but still to no avail.I know my ethernet cable is good,as I'm in the cabling business and made it myself and tested it with my cable tester.I tried using my Start up disc that came w/ the PS2,but still nothing.Tried putting in my Socom game disc, and using the "online" option, and tried to test connection that way,but got a timed out message(with no connection). My ISP is Charter Communications for my pc,tv,and my voip. Can someone please give me an idea of what might be going on.
Eagerly awaitng to blow the crap out of some terrorist!!!

please remove your email address, it is against the rules.
Plus there are bots that search the net for people who post them and then you get spammed to death.

try doing that and see if it helps. Sometime it is just because your PC is not set up to allow other devices to share the internet connection.

have you tried power cycling the modem before plugging it into the ps2 and setting it up? (I noticed you said you reset the modem after setting up) the other thing I thought of is that maybe your ISP only allows 1 mac address to connect through the modem?
steimy, I don't think the problem is ICS 'cause he's plugging the modem straight into the ps2.

Hey guys.First, sorry for the email address in my original post, this is my first post.Live & learn they say.Yes,I even tried plugging my PS2 straight into my cable modem(minus my pc),and then rebooted both the modem and ps2.My ps2 is the newer 7000 series w/ the ethernet adapter built-in.I even tried to go into my network connections and set up share connection, but still nothing.I was really looking forward to getting on line w/Socom and blasting some terrorist asses, but till this issue is resolved,I'll just have to keep honing my skills in the single player option off-line.It is also awesome on my 52"big screen.I'm just anxious to get it on-line and go at it.Hope to get it resolved.
Eagerly awaiting any responses..... THANKS GUYS........GBDAV

Once again..THANKS...........GBDAV

Hey guys,I finally got my PS2 connected to the internet and have been playing online Socom 1 & 2.It's great. Found out that my ISP does allow more than one device on my single internet connection, but the problem was one of the ends on th eethernet cable I made was bad,so,I cut both ends off and recrimped 2 more and then it worked fine. Now,I just need to go tomorrow and get a router so I can have pc & console on my connection.
Thanks for all the advice and suggestions and hope to keep using this forum,as it has been the most helpful in responding to my issue.
And I promise I won't put my email address on here again.
Have a Great day.........Going gaming now and blow me up some terrorists.............. BABOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

great, glad you got it working.
I assume since you have such a bad a$$ TV that you have gone out and bought the PS2 component cables?
If not you need to ASAP :)
The clearity of the picture will blow your mind. You'll never get out from in front of that TV again, hahahaha

you know, I would've suggest to try a different cable had you not made such a big fuss about being in the cabling business and that you were sure the cable was good :) enjoy your online gamin.

Wasn't such a "big fuss",just making a statement as to eliminate the possibility of bad cable. It was bad and if I weren't in the biz with the testers, then I would have never known the rj45 was bad ,now would I.Thanks anyway ...online gaming sure is ALOT different than single player..
Later....gbdav

Yes,you can plug into your ps2,as long as it is a newer 7000 series, which has the network adapter built in.Make sure,if you are not using a router,to power down both ps2 and cable modem. Then, plug in your ethernet cable to both ends, then power up your modem first, then power up your ps2,then on your game disc, just choose "online",then it will walk u thru the steps of setting everthing else up.You really need to get you a router, only 30 bucks, then the rest of the family won't be bitching at you like mine did because they couldn't get on the internet cause I was using the connection.Any questions, just post and ask.Good luck.............gbdav

pepsi, you'll need to buy a network adapter if you wanna play online because the older ps2s didn't have a built in adapter only the slim ps2s have the built in adapter.

yes, get the network adapter, then download a free program called Xlink Kai, there are lots of games you can play on there and the service is free! and also Xbox, Gamecube, & PSP as well.
