Is there a way to tell from the UMD case what firmware version you need? Like on the box the actualy PSP comes in there is a letter which represents the firware version. Is this the case with the UMD case? Coz i no some games you need to upgrade to play them.

Also, what 'UCES' and 'ULES'? Its on the spine of the case

Thanks,
Oh and btw, hi, im new :)

No you cant tell which version it requires from the case, but if its a new game then it will require 2.5/2.6...

Nope, but here is a great list of PSP game titles and what version firmware they require, thanks to many user contributions:

Hope it helps.

Ok, thanks :)

Does anyone have information on UCES and ULES? Are there any others? And what is the significance of it?

Possibly a regional identification code. Here are mine:

Burnout Legends - ULES 00125 (Region 4)
Lumines - ULUS 10002 (Region 1)
WipEout Pure - UCES 00001 (Region 4)
X-Men Legends II - ULES 00189 (Region 2)

So you could say that the U stands for UMD, the second character, I'm not sure about, the third suggests region E (European?) and U (US?), the last could just stand for Sony. My UMD movies dont have this identifier on them. Note that all these titles were purchased legitimately in Australia. Perhaps Lumines was released as Region 1 all over the world? Im not sure. If you want to do some research on it, the best thing to do is either get in touch with Sony themselves or get people all over the world to post their UMD ID codes..

Best Regards

I've been working on a complete serial list here: http://www.speedsurf.to/psp/umd_serials.html

You can also see a list of the needed firmware for games here: http://www.speedsurf.to/psp/firmwares.html

If you see something I don't have, please e-mail me (not about the firmware list; I don't care about that).

Enough about advertisements and now about PSP serials:
Serials: UXYX-ZZZZZ
U = UMD; This just tells us that the game is a UMD
X = UMD type; This tells us if a game is retail, demo disc, or an internal developer's version (eg. Beta)
Y = Region*
ZZZZZ = Unique game identification number

*Regions:
A = Asia
E = Europe
J = Japan
K = Korea
U = USA

There is is also TCPS-XXXXXX, those are only in Japan and no versions have been dumped so I can't give any more information about them.

UMD Movies and Audio do have serials, but it uses several completely different methods of which I haven't completely cracked yet.

Sorry if I'm breaking any rules, found the topic on google and had to check it out ;)
