I have a dell dimemension 3000 running windows xp. A week ago I found out I was infected with the Blackworm virus. I found out how to fix the problem through this web site. Thanks to Cheesball!!! Then I decided to install Panda 2006 Internet Security and after that I had problems with getting onto the internet but found another thread here and solved that problem also. Thanks again! Now I having problems with my DVD burner not reading my cd's or dvd's sometimes. Tried turning off the firewall but that didn't work so I rebooted the system and then it worked. I could see information on the disc through windows explore. I sucessfully got DVD Shrink to work but when it went to DVD decreytor it started but would not backup my dvd. Is this a hardware or software problem. Shrink and decreytor always worked fine for me before. Please help. Thanks

Sounds like you are trying to rip a new movie. These new movies have newer protection and fault protection to back it up, ie. dummy vob's. Try downloading and using AnyDVD 5.9.5.3. It'll remove any current protection and fix any other fault protection added to backup the broken encryption.

Who is that shadowy figure?

I have AnyDVD already and it has been working great. When I started Shrink and clicked on re-author it says "No Disc". So I rebooted, then it ran fine but, when it started Decryptor it would not start the burn process. Tried burning a previous backup that I have on my hard drive and it still would not burn.

ocdkid,
This sounds like a Hardware problem. In Device Manager are there any yellow caution flags present. Is the burner showing there? If not then turn off the computer and open up the side of the computer. Ground yourself and make sure all of the cables are firmly seated and the cables to the PS are connected properly

Just to add to Car.Mike suggestions:

You could also try uninstalling the IDE channel the drive is on, reboot, allow the drive to be detected by the OS and reinstalled. After the process is complete, make sure the drive has DMA enabled for best performance.

Here's a guide if needed;
http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm

You might also want to make sure that the burner's firmware is upto date, you can use this utility to check, it will display the model# and firmware version currently installed;
http://flashman.rpc1.org/Firmware/DVD-CD_firmware_detect.exe

Once the utility displays your model# and current firmware rev, you can go here to get an update if needed;
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/Home.aspx

When at the above site, just...
First select a drive-type... ...then a manufacturer... ..and finally a model.

First of all thanks for your help.

The device manager says that it is working properly and it shows my DVD burner. It seems to be working (as long as I reboot). I unistalled Shrink and Decryptor then re-installed. Shrink works fine but when it starts Decryptor it seems to lock up so I re-open the drive tray with a blank DVD and then Decryptor looks like its ready to burn and runs for a few seconds then it gives me this error "Session fixation error writing lead in".
What killing me is everything was working fine until that dam virus came along.
Does this still seem to be a Hardware problem? Because I haven't tried uninstalling the IDE channel yet because it said the device was working properly. More help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

ocdkid,
Looks like the burner did not like the blank media. Try Verbatim , Taiyo Yuden, Maxell.
The Cmags you have below are not the best and they should be used for anything else but movies

I'll try but, I used a whole of the same DVD's and they have always worked fine before. Except some of my movies seem to freeze only towards the end of the movie. Also should my AnyDVD be re-installed since the virus. Thanks again.

This tends to happen when poor quality media is used and the burn/write speed is too fast.

1) Get better media as suggested
2) Here according to the log:I 23:56:38 Write Speed: MAX

You never want to use the "MAX" setting (usually the default in decrypter), a good rule to follow is the burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media, but I personally feel that 4x will produce the best results. Get rid of the MAX setting and slow it down.

I know I'm driving you guys crazy by now. I actually thought everything was running smooth again. Decrypter started working (running at 4X speed) and it got to about 12% done then it gave me this error "invaild address for write. I put it in my DVD player and it worked fine for the part that it recorded. I just can't remember the way I had Decrypter set up before or is this still just bad media? Yes I tried my same ole Memorex DVD+R 8x 4.7 until I get to the store. I also un-installed AnyDVD for now.

ocdkid,
I still think it is the media you are using or your burner is going bad. Try blowing a can of compressed air gently through the burner's opening and see if that helps. Could be lint on the lens
