Can't detect COM ports

I was using Motorola Phone tools with my laptop and now when I try to connect anything to the usb's on the computer it starts trying to install Motorola Modem. When I go under Device Mgr I have no COM ports. How do I reinstall COM ports? I want to use Hyperterminal to communicate with my Tracvision Satellite but there are not any COM ports anymore.

did you try just doing a system restore to the date prior to your phone tool install?

Yes,
I had that turned off but it is not anymore. Why I had it off I don't know. I actually found the USB to Serial adapter software and installed that and now I have a COM port.
