When I first started backing up my movies i used CMC MAG (Memorex) and TTH02 (TDK). Now knowing that CMC MAG suck, I've been re-backing them up to Sony (TY). Do I need to redo the TTH02's as well, or are they OK brand media?? Thanks in advance for any input. Chris.

I have never heard of TTH02 media, I don't mean to be this as an insult in anyway, but I know that the G and the H key are close to each other on the keyboard, did you accidentally hit the H instead of the G. I do know that TDK 8x-r codes out at TTG02 and that DVD-R 8x Ridisc 8x media code out as TTG02. Unless I just plain forgot or had a brainfart, I don't remember that code. Anyway, don't take what I said as an insult in anyway.

I'm not sure about all this, but logical information // sense, by transfering a backup to another type of disk, to another backup = this.

If* the data on the backup hasn't gotten very bad, transfering to a better brand media makes sense. Considering the other media "ty" will most likly last longer then the memorex brand disc wise*. But remember when you burn a disc to a disc, data wise there identical 100%, so as long as the data was good, hopefully the backups from the memorex disc wheren't that old, the transfer was probably smart and should in the long run work out for you.

Sorry for the small speech, but in simple terms, as long as the memorex backups wheren't to old, you probably made the smart choice. And about the TDK media, I personally would transfer them also, but thats me. Storm~

as to Storm's comment regarding the TDKs, i agree with him...but, take into consideration i have a HATRED towards TDK's own media...the TTG01/TTG02/TTH02, etc...all the ones that start with "TT" and the "TDK001-TDK003" ones i don't like either~ :)

once again, it's just MY opinion of TDKs...and my dislike for them is only ME and me alone, i'm sure many others share my sentiments for TDK, but some people do have success with them...i for one, have NOT and i probably have more different models of dvd burners than the avg. person...Benqs, Pioneers, Nec, Liteon, Sony...to name a few brands that i own...and have tried the horrid TDKs on (my opinion again as to how bad they are) :P

CMC Mag is fair, but it's not the lowly Princo or other bad media. Before you back up again, run a few quality scans on your old burns like the PI/PO test. If the results are decent, I wouldn't bother wasting time and money backing up again. In fact, the new media these days are poorer than my old media. They are not as sturdy because they are thinner so that they can up the burning speed. Also, they re using 3rd rate makers now like Prodisc for even Verbatims because the profit margins are so slim now.

Re-rip them.

Re-ripping: That's a good test to actually see how good those backups are.Tests out how good your backups are.

Too many errors/or errors in the wrong place and you'll get crc errors.

Back them up to the harddrive using your normal process. If you think of using on the fly, then be cautious. Those cmags may be the trickier to re-rip.

The safest/fastest way would be to use Dvd decypter: Mode ISO read and Mode ISO write. Should take 5 mins to rip to harddrive/locate those mds files/open/and burn away. If you do encounter crc errors, set dvd decrypter to: Rip with brute force and Ignore all read errors. It may be able to get through some of those errors?
