Hey guys,

I have the World Snooker Championship 2005 ISO, which comes in at hefty 645MB. Daxing the ISO only brings it down to 553MB, so I was wondering if they was any way to get the ISO any smaller? I opened up the ISO to see if there was anything that could be stripped out but there isn't much there. There's no UPDATE folder as this is a 1.5 game, and there seems to be only two files that make up the majority of the file size. They are in the USRDIR, and are pspStrm.pck (202MB) and wcs2005.ppd (321MB). If anyone has any ideas on how to get this ISO smaller that would be awesome. I have hunted for this YAIUS(?) iso shrinker but have had no luck with that, if anyone has a link that would be cool.

The game works fine even when daxed, but it'd be nice if it would be a little smaller so that I can squeeze a little extra onto my measly 1GB stick.

Peace guys, thanks.

Get this: http://www.umdgen.com/utilities.html, open the iso and look in the SYSDIR for dummy.dat or pad01.pad/pad1.pad, these are files that are needed for the umd's so they can be safely taken out, right click them and click delete. Click file, save, then try and dax it...

so far dax is the best way to get the smallest files, theres a nice new program called xpert 1.05 it can do alot of things including shrink isos, i dont know if it will shrink any more then dax, its new get it from ps2nfo (you have to register to download)

But ive daxed an iso before from 900mb and it only shrinked it down to 800mb, taking the dummy files out will get maximum results on top of the dax compression as he only has a 1gb....

in some cases yes, but in his case his file is 553mb
and he says his two big files add up to almost that size so even if there is a dummy file it would not be too big.

The dummy data is the first thing that iso shrinkers take out, if a backup iso has dummy data still in it, it is probably a full dump.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been sessioning this game quite a bit. You are right Piece, the .pck and.ppd files make up about 95% of the iso size, so stripping out any dummy files would not make any real difference. Having played the game now its even more annoying because there is so much that could be stripped out!

Whenever the AI takes a shot there is a video of it happening (which you can turn off in the preferences, I always do) and also when you do something skilled like make your first 147 or your first double you unlock a crappy 4:3 video clip of someone like Ronnie O'Sullivan doing that trick. I'd happily dump all that to get the iso size down. Is there any tools availible for decrypting or editing a .pck or .ppd file? I'd really like to play around with this iso but am not sure if the tools are out there, and I'm not smart enough by a looooong stretch to be able to write my own tools :-)

Peace

try umdripper it can rip out movies and music.
To use it you have to firstly extract your backup with WinRar
thenpoint UMD ripper to the PSP_GAME folder
then rip.
After its done youll need UMDgen to rebuild it
drag n drop PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.bin to right hand side
FIle - EXPORT ISO

Thanks for the tips guys, I googled and there is a specific rip-kit for this iso, and now its a very respectable 255MB daxed.

I'll post the link if anyone wants it, and if its within the rules to post a link to a rip-kit?

Peace.

I think its all the video clips, the music and the match commentary that are ripped out. All the video clips are relinked to the Sega video from the startup.
