What's the brand name and model# of your burner?

TDK media isn't exactly up there in the quality spectrum. Lots of good stuff out there, and probably cheaper than you been paying for TDK media.

Do you need those shiny-probably thermal-verbs?

You can get regular verbatim 16x for $15 a 50 pack at local stores like office max/Office Depot/and bestbuy when they go on sale.

I love the +16x. They perform better at 8x and 12x on my benq drives.I can't burn these at 2,4x because of crc errors. These discs were designed to be burned fast!

HP a1118x-b/athlon 64-3300+/BenQ 1650 BCDC/LG 8163B/Modded Wii/Epson-R300 and Ty Watershields!!!

me4321: When it comes to stand alone player playback, some weird stuff can happen.Compatability issues/playback issues. Backup discs are harder to read for stand alone players. Some of them are picky as to how fast you can burn them, what format to use, which burn program to use, even which MID code of media it'll handle.

That's why quality media is stressed so much. The quality media can prevent a lot of those stand alone player issues. Verbatim and Taiyo yuden are the top dogs, and hitachi right up there. After that, anything goes- Ritek/ricoh/ which are decent.

actech: The best way is by scanning your backups. Depending on what programs and what burner you got:

Nero- Speed test
Lite-on: Kprobe
Dvdinfopro
Plextors: Plextools

I try to keep my errors down to a minimum.Dvd players are more forgiving,dvd-rom drives when trying to rip a dvd, aren't.Too many errors,or errors in the wrong spot may cause you problems later.Best to burn according to your scans. I was surprised at how I have more errors burning 16x verbs at 2.4x and 4x. These verbs have to be burned at least 8x+ on my benq drives.

Another way is re-rip those backups. Use your normal process, and rip that backup disc back to your harddrive. You don't have to go through with the burn.Just make sure you can get them to your harddrive without getting a crc error.

Even better, but may waste a disc: If you have dual drives- Re-rip one of those backups and burn on the fly. Major errors will Coaster out that disc. Very risky, but I have no trouble with it.

Stand alone players can vary. That's why if anyone has any issues, the backups must be verified by the DVD-RW drive that produced them. This means that drive must play it's own backups and they should look near original in quality. Verify in other stand alones.

Watching a tv playing my backups: All I can see is the compression issues. That's why I try to keep that down to a minimum. After that,if a player gives issues with my backups,it's usually these factors:
Dirty disc-probably fingerprints
Worn out dvd player-freezing/skipping/pixellation
Crap media-I am given crap media for free to test.I can burn them,at 100% success rate, but stand alone players do show playback issues with them.

Kprobe works with Lite-on/rebadged lite-on drives. I know it has an error scanning test.

That should be a very good burner. It has bitsetting capability to booktype the plus format to dvd-rom.You'll have to use a separate utility from liteon's main website. This is why Lite-on drives perform better with the plus format.

Remember this in case you run into any stand alone players that give your backups a no disc inserted error on both your plus and dash backups.

95 is pretty good. Wait till you get into the Verbatim 16x! You should be very happy with them.
