Maybe someone can help me with this one!

I have no problem burning any DVD, it's just the dual layer ones.
Play back always freezes when it hits the second layer. If I fast forward for a second I usually get past the freeze. But it?s frustrating trying to watch a movie knowing eventually the dam things going to freeze up.

Using Nero 6, a Sony DRU-710A DL Burner and Verbatim +DL disks.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Vince

heres a good way use any dvd in background run it through srink on your hard drive then burn with Nero 7 on slow speed 4x on DVD-R - not plus remember dont burn through srink save on your hard drive first use this way for movies that you cant copy from roxie 7or 8 and nero7 that you can run through decypter or dvd fab then burn

If using nero6 to burn to dual layer media, dont, it's not very good with the layer break. Have DVD shrink create and ISO image file and burn to disk using DVD decrypter (or ImgBurn), When choosing a write speed stick to 2.4X and you should be ok.

You can get imgburn here if you need it;
http://www.imgburn.com

Another way is:
If you've got a VIDEO_TS folder on your HDD containing the ripped video files, you can use folder2iso for the conversion to ISO image format (.iso) and use DVD decrypter to burn to disk. All you need is here;

@ vince99 hi :)
as johnl123 says Nero is not the way to go with dual layer.
and to be honest shrink is not needed either, with a d/l it's a straight copy with no need for any compression.
all you need is dvddecrypter which handles the layer break better than most. with which ever copy protection buster you preffer running in the background.
so decrypter in "iso read mode" to drop it to hard drive, then decrypter in "iso write mode" select the mds file (which holds all the info for decrypter to put the layer break in the right place), hit the little green arrow and go and make a cuppa and a sarny. come back and bingo! job done ;)

I wouldn't even consider using nero6 for my dl backups.

Dvd decrypter in mode iso read and write is a lot easier

Or Dvd decryper in Mode ISO read to harddrive/Open up IMGburn/locate those mds files/open/and burn.

Another thing to note: Take note of the area where those backups freeze-which is around the layer break. Now view that backup on your pc using the Sony Dru-710a. See if that sony drive has the same issue at that spot. There's a slim chance it could be your player's fault.Let us know how that sony burner plays that backup. Playing them on any other stand alone players will also help narrow it down.

You couldn't of used clonedvd2 to burn to dual layer media, the software does not provide support for burning to DL disks.

As shown on the site:
Works with DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW media only.

Requirements:
About 5 GB of temporary available hard-drive space is necessary to clone DVDs.

Mine does, I have Elby CloneDVD2 and it has 5 formats DVD-5, DVD+RDL, DVD RAM, Mini DVD and custom. It is one of the bst backup programs I have used. It looks identical to slysoft clonedvd.

Are you sure we're talking about the same clonedvd2? Not sure?

This is the one I'm referring to;
http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonedvd.html

If this is the one you're referring to, it looks the same to me (from the elby site);

@arniebear, hello myfriend, just wanted to know do you make an Iso image using CloneDVD 2 and then burn that image using CloneDVD 2 or just click the Dvd 9 - DL and then place the DL in one drive and your movie in the other and hit the start button. I have a few movies on HD and I want to just make a DL. Would you suggest CloneDVD 2 over Recode 2, Folder to Iso, and ImgTools for making the Iso or just using video files already on there? Just wondering? Thanks my friend for your input and anybody else's as well.

I always use DVDD to create iso and Imgburn to burn mds file for my Verbatim DL burns. I don't have any DVD, so I often use DVDFab to rip movies that DVDD can't handle. To burn these onto DL, I just use Imgtool to create an iso file and then burn with Imgburn. Doesn't create an mds file, but have yet to have a single problem yet with either method.

Hello to you my friend, I just put the DL in and choose the DVD9 and let it go. Did Constant Gardener and Dreamer using Clone and they came out very good. I had tried Dreamer with Nero just to see if anything had improved and it bombed out, still do not like Nero for DL backups. I did Narnia using Decrypter in iso read and then write mode and that one came out perfect too. I also have used Blindwrite by VSO which makes a really good DL backup. So at least you got your choice of programs that are working out for this media :)

@bmccoy1 and arniebear

When I got home form work, I had to check;
Darn it, you guys are right! I've been using clonedvd2 for a quite a while now and never noticed under the quality setting there was a choice for DVD-9, guess I never bothered to look because of the text at the slysoft site under FEATURES , which states: "Works with DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW media", I assumed that DL media was not supported since it wasn't mentioned.

Thanks for the info guys.

@arniebear, thanks my friend. I will try that out since I haven't used CloneDVD 2 for DL's...I did just use Folder to Iso and for a single layer it was perfect, I also use the ImgTools and that works great as well, I was just wondering what your experience has been, I agree about Nero, works great for single layer, and doesn't match up when dealing with DL's (at least in my experience). Have a good weekend.

When using CloneDVD2. Just Like arniebear said just put the movie in select DVD-9 and let it go. If you just want to save it to HDD and burn it later choose DVD files tab and it will save in folder of you choice in a video-ts folder.

I too have been using Nero to do DL. With fairly good success. Some skips and 1 layerbreak freeze. That was the last potter movie.None of the DLs would play in a combo TV-DVD player. I tried it again with your method of writing the ISO Image file with Shrink and letting Decrypter Burn it at 2.4. This one does play in the combo now. I had tried decrypter in ISO to read and write and the disc was a Coaster. Tried only once at $2per. Thanks for the heads up.

Made a DL backup tonight of one of my favorite movies as of late using CloneDVD 2 (like arniebear said) and it is flawless...navigation, scene selection, extras and movie were perfect. I typically use Decrypter Iso Read, then ImgBurn Iso write. I tried the Folder to Iso for one DL and it wouldn't play on any of the stand alones. I have used ImgTools with great success for creating an image from the folder on HD and burned it with ImgBurn.

Glad the backup with Clone worked for you my friend. I have yet to get a decent DL with Nero, it is nice to have a program that works like Clone. Just a note on Folder2Iso, if you plan on using RB do not use it in conjunction with that program. Had some posters in the RB forum who used it with RB and got output files that would not work. Happy burning to you buddy :)
