New to the booktyping for +r media.

Quick question:

This link http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/download_utility.htm is for changing the booktype on a lite on drive (which i have now and will soon be buying a lite-on dl burner.) Ive read I can also change the booktype setting within DVD Decrypter's burning settings. --So...do i need to do both of these to change the booktype or just one, (and which one)?

Use the lite-on utility, once you set it that is it. It then is automatic in other programs including Decrypter.

arniebear - I used the lite-on booktype utility, but it only booktyped that one time. I used DVD Decrypter on subsequent discs and it didn't booktype automatically.

What is booktyping and why is it necessary? Thanks.

@ Fleezbyte

booktyping means when you set the dvd burner to booktype burned discs to dvd-rom type (makes the final disc more compatible with many and older stand alone dvd players),for example all commercially pressed dvd discs are booktyped dvd-rom, that is why they play in all dvd players.

it all depends if your dvd burner can allow/support it and it's done mostly and only i think on DVD+R media.

if i confused u, u can search the forum, there is plenty of threads that explainin more detail :) later

Ok, thanks for the response. How do I know if mine is compatible or not? Will it be in my manual? I'll check.

@killaklan

If the burner is not capable of booktyping then Decrypter may try but it won't succeed. Also only DVD+Rs can be booktyped to DVD-ROMs.

to answer your question what brand is your burner 1st of all, not all can booktype. plextor, benq and liteon are the burners i am certain that booktype. for some other burners like nec there are hacked firmwares that allow them to booktype, but that voids the warranty if the flashing goes wrong.

so if you have any of the above named burners they can booktype, also most of the "brand" names like sony even plextor now they use rebadged benq and liteon so they also booktype.

tell us your burner model and brand and anybody here can tell u if it can booktype or not.

also search the forums with your model number for specs on it.

@ limelight hi :)
yes you can change the setting in decrypter to booktype with a liteon drive
in "iso write mode" go to the settings panel down in the right hand corner. click the little book, on the drop down panel select Liteon, then select
Drive(For DVD+R/+R DL Media-EEPROM!)
this will set your Liteon Drive to auto booktype your +R to -ROM

@kaity hi :)
try the above

@ arnie hi :)

Does the fact that you have to go into ISO Mode to change the booktype mean you must be burning in ISO mode in order for it to work. In other words if I want to burn a Video_TS folder(Vobs ect) can I also change the booktype(using say Nero). BTW my burner is a Plextor 708A so given what has already been said I presume it will allow me change the booktype on a DVD+R disc.

Actually, I prefer burning the "VIDEO_TS" file with Nero Burning Rom instead of burning the ISO with DVD Decrypter. Why? Because... (1) it's my choice of preference. (2) Nero Burning Rom and Nero Express will "automatically" change the "book type" to DVD-ROM by itself in prior to the actual burning process when using any DVD+R disc. I've been burning with Nero Burning Rom more than a thousand times and it has "never" let me down when it comes to book typing. All you need to do is set the "book type" inside Nero Burning Rom to "Automatic" and it will be stored permanently inside Nero Burning Rom's engine. That being said, you'll never have to go inside it's setting and mess/change it again.

In the end, we're all entitled to our judgment and preferences, so use whatever your desire to and or have more experiences hands on.

You booktype +Rs in Nero or Shrink. In Nero Burning Rom top right choose recorder in the windows Option set to automatic. you may have to put a +R disc in to get the option available.

Thanks guys. Just a note on the bitsetting utility in Nero. I am using Nero 7 Demo(and maybe that's why) but there is not a bitsetting option where garmoon places it, Burning Rom/Recorder/Options and I did have a blank DVD+R in the drive when I selected Recorder/Options. However in Nero CD/DVD Speed, there is an option to change the bitsetting.
