I had the same problem only with +r's and using Roxio 7. What I did was I defraged my hd and if I am burn multiple bkup's, I shut down Roxio every 4 or 5 copies and restart. This has fixed my problem. I musyt have made 20 coasters before I figured this one out. I hope it helps.

What programs are you using for the dvd backup process?

Most programs should do the finalizing automatically.

What's the brand name and speed rate of your blank dvd + and - r's?

What are you backing up?

What's your process for making your backups?

Most likely compatability.Your drive doesn't like your dash backups from that lite-on DVD-RW drive.

Plus format is ok for you, stick with it.Lite-on drives highly favor the plus format, and that model may be able to booktype them to dvd-rom. This booktyping of the plus format will make your backups have a higher compatability rate.

The dash backup acts like it hasn't been finalized. This is the usual compatability issue between backups and stand alone players. Dash can't be booktyped. Some drives favor the dash format.Pioneer and NEC highly favor the dash format.

Some stand alone players may play both formats/plus/dash/or even none of your backups. They can be screwy when it comes to recognizing dvd backups. Not only media quality, but these players can be sensitive to: Burn engine/speed of burn/burner itself/and even certain MID codes of media.

It's all about compatability. When stand alone players give you: No disc/Dirty disc/Wrong region/or Wrong format error when you slap one of your backup discs in it,then it's a compatability issue.

A lot of other things can cause this: Different brands of media can cause this. Most brands of media,is made by many different manufacturers. This means Maxell -8x gold tops are made by: Ritek/Hitachi/and Cmags. Media quality will vary between the Hitachi and cmags. Stand alone players can pick apart the lower quality media.Crappy burners can do this. Lite-on's are very good burners, using the plus format.

Play that dash backup with your pc using the liteon 1635s to play it. Use other pc drives/game consoles/or stand alone players and see how they react to that dash backup. The more drives, the better.
