NOTE: I am new to all this quality stuff.

I bought a 100 pack of Ridata 8x DVD+R's with the media code RITEK-R03-02 last summer, and I haven't had any problems with them on my NEC 3540a, but I read some posts about DVD quality, so I went to check one of my older discs which was a full dvd movie backup that was burned on September 9, 2005. I used 3 different speeds to test, and got:

8x Quality Score = 0
5x Quality Score = 0
1x Quality Score = 97

Is this bad media or are you supposed to check quality at 1x?

Oh and two other totally unrelated questions:

I recently recieve Imation 8x DVD+R's as a gift, and I have heard awful things about this company. The media is coded RICOHJPN-R02-03. Are these any good, or should I trash them?

I bought some Verbatim 16x DVD+R's and their media code is MCC-004-00. I hear the 003 are good, but what about 004?

What program are you using to check your disc quality? When I use Nero CD/DVD Speed, I test at 8x ...

RicohJpn R03 are pretty good (B+) media ... use 'em

The Verbatim MCC004 are, in my opinion, the BEST 16x media that is currently widely available ...

By the way ... the quality test is not really accurate ... I think that what it really does is test how well your reader/writer reads a particular disc ...

I use Nero CD/DVD Speed too.

EDIT: Maybe it is the NEC 3540a drive then? I had to upgrade the firmware to even get it to test.

I'm skeptical about checking older discs. I ran one of my latest backups using SonyD21 media and got a 46 rating. Both errors in the same error on dvdinfopro and Nero speed test.

Looked at that area carefully and a big fat fingerprint, LOL

Re-scanned it and got a 92, LOL

Those older discs will have more scratches on them.

For Nero speed test: I use 4x.

Those Ricohjpn-r02s should be pretty decent. I haven't burned any ricoh media in the 8x speed. The 4x ricohs were very good, and the 16x ricohs seem ok. Keep Em!

Mcc-003 are awesome. Mcc-004 are phenomenal. These actually scan way better at the 12x burn speed than the 4x speed on my benqs.

Like catfreak posted, the MCC-004 media is about the best 16x media out there. I have not tried any Yuden000-T03 or Ty-g03 yet.

ill add to my buddies here with the Taiyo Yuden 16x medias...

i PERSONALLY rate the 16x DVD+R YUDEN000T03s as being right up there with the MCC004 Verbs, both VERY high quality media in the 16x speeds...:)

as to the TYG03s (16x dvd-r) TYs, i find the 8x DVD-R TYG02s to be of "better" quality on my setups...

but, since you are using the DVD+R format, the 8x MCC003s Verbs and the 16x MCC004s are great stuff, right up there with once again MY opinion of the 8x DVD+R YUDEN000T02s as holding the top honors~

i have used very few of the Ricohjpn and Ritek in the DVD+R format, but they are both decent with the limited pieces i've actually tried, they are even better when you can get them on sale for $0.20-$0.25 each :)

I just burned a DVD using those RICOHJPN-R02-03 Imation Discs, and it burned at 12x. Not bad for an 8x disc, I suppose.

I'm very glad to hear that the MCC-004-00 Verbatim discs are good because I spent 40 dollars on 100 of them. :P

You paid about $10 too much for those 100 verbs.

My max limit on regular dvd media is 30 cents each. This amounts to $15 per 50 pk. And I do get sony taiyo yuden/maxell hitachi/and mitsubishi verbatims for that price.

Ritek and ricoh: Should be able to get them at the 20-25 cents price. Office Depot brand 8x are ritek, the +16x are ricohs.Watch for their buy1/get 2 free promos.
