I just bought the swapmagic 3.8 coder disks a few days ago. Ive been using it for a day with no problems but now im having issues. Ive read the help threads here but I didnt come accross anything as to why it WAS working perfectly for a day and NOW stops.

My PS2 is the original US 3001 version. It actually hasnt got any use until now after all these years. Maybe only a couple weeks worth until now.

Everything was fine for like 24 hours. Now my PS2 wont read any of the backup dvds I put into it (I use Maxell Dvd-r, the ones in the blue package). It will load the Swapmagic Coder dvd but when I open the dvd drawer with the tool, put in a backed up dvd and close it with the tool like Ive been doing all along successfully it just goes to the PS2 screen where you see the dvd and memory card icons. The PS2 loads the originals without any problems!

Also I burn my DVDs at 4x. I try to burn it at 2x or 1x in the settings with Dvd Decryptor or Alcohol 120% but it always goes to 4x on its own.

Arg!! everything was fine! Can you please tell me whats happened?

Ok I just bought 50 Taiyo Yuden TYG03. Damn PS2 is doing the same thing.

Wow how frustrating is it that this was all perfectly fine for 24 hours and now it just decides it doesnt want boot the backups anymore.

yeah but what if my laser just wont read DVD-R. Which Im thinking is the problem now. I mean there doesnt seem to be any other explanation for it. If it doesnt read DVD-R can a mod chip fix that?

Your using a slide tool? If you don't use it just right it won't work.. I'd go with a Fliptop...

I'm not sure but I thought I heard somewhere on here that the ver 1 PS2's don't play backups all that well.. Maybe someone else can confirm that...

Operation Procedures for Slide Card + Swap Magic Combo:

The Swap Magic package comes with two discs:
One disc for booting PS2 CD-R games, and another for booting PS2 DVD±R games.

USING THE SWAP MAGIC DISC WITH A SLIDE CARD:

Instructions for PS2 CD-R Backups and PS2 Original CD Import Games:

1. Boot up the Swap Magic "CD" disc.
2. Wait for the PS2 to boot up until "Load Program" message appears on the screen.
3. Use the Slide-Card to open the tray.
4. Insert your PS2 CD backup or import game.
5. Use the Slide-Card to close the tray.
6. Press X on joypad and the game starts.

Instructions for PS2 DVD±R Backups and PS2 Original DVD Import Games:

1. Boot up the Swap Magic "DVD" disc.
2. Wait for the PS2 to boot up until "Insert Disc" message appears on the screen.
3. Use the Slide-Card to open the tray.
4. Insert your PS2 DVD backup or import game.
5. Use the Slide-Card to close the tray.
6. Press X on joypad and the game starts.

Note: PS1 backup and import games will not work with the Swap Magic discs.
If you want to play PS1 backup and import games without a modchip you need the Breaker Pro disc.

yeah Ive done it all to a T. Im sure mine is v1 as it has 10 screws on the bottom and I got the damn thing the absolute first day it was out.

I wonder if a new laser would help it read the DVD-R. Meaning is the laser updated in the replacement or is the replacement an exact clone of whats in my system?

just odd that it goes to the Memory Card menu when you insert the Backup... I'd try the Laser Adjustment 1st and see if that fixes the problem... as far as the laser being the same I'm not sure if the lasers are updated or not.. I do know different systems have different lasers so they all aren't the same....

try this first...

What the hell? I got it to work!? I read something about refreshing a TOC and I tried that with the original God of War dvd and then after trying the backup again it worked!! This is exactly what I did.

I put the Coder disk in. After booting, I pressed the eject button and put in the original God of War dvd and pressed eject again to close the drawer. I then selected X to BOOT. It booted God of War. I then took out God of War and put the Coder disk in again (reset the ps2). Once it booted I used the slide tool and took it out. I then put in the God Of War backup and closed the drawer with the slide tool. I then pressed X for BOOT. IT WORKED??

WHy is this? Does this have something to do with refreshing the TOC? Can you explain to me what this is and why/when I need to do this so I can understand for the future.

Can someone please explain to me what this refreshing the TOC is and when/why I need to do this?

Thank you

Also when you say you can BOOK 3.8 to 3.6etc. How do you do this? Is there a faq or thread somwehere explaining this?

Thanks

no you can just boot 3.8 like a backup with 3.6 for the new facilitys. erm just back it up using DVD Decrypter by doing this

. Insert Swap magic 3.8 into your cd drive on computer and click DVD Decrypter
.Once dvd decdrypter is loaded up goto mode and select ISO - Read R
and then select the destination where you wish to save the iso.
