Well, first, I shall begin my question by stating that I have absolutely NO (or, at best, very little) experience with DVD editing programs, so please, bear with me here.

I've downloaded the latest version of DVD Shrink for the purpose of selecting segments from some home movies (commercially encrypted, to be specific, Black Hawk Down, Aliens, and Terminator 2). I'm going to be using said segments to compile into a music video. Anyway, I've selected a piece I wanted from a video, and have turned it into it's own .VOB (I think that's what it is) file. How do I go about using it in a movie-making program (specifically, Windows Movie Maker) from here? I've tried re-naming the file with various extensions, such as .AVI, .WMV, etc, but nothing has worked. Is there a way to get the clip out from the .VOB file and be able to use it in Windows Movie Maker?

Well, DVD uses Mpeg. Have you tried renaming as MPG? That'll work most of the time. You can also open the file with virtualdub mpeg2 or virtualdub mod and do your editing with virtualdub as well.
