After I burn a dvd using clonedvd2 and have subtitles selected I run into the issue of when playing the movie the subtitles showup by default.

I constantly have to turn them off when the movie begins. I'm using the following dvd player...

Philips DVP642

I suspect its the way clonedvd2 burns the dvd. Is there any option to have the subtitles turned off by default?

thanx

Yes... One or two ways: Do "movie and menu" and subtitles will only appear when selected through menu. You can use MenuShrink to shrink menu and dedicate more MBs to feature before transcoding. OR edit/remove PUOs (prohibited user operations) with tools such as DVDRemake before transcoding...

PBX,
1. Check the onscreen setup options of your player to make sure that Subtitles are set to "OFF"

2. But I suspect the real problem is that you are using CloneDVD to make backups without selecting "Preserve Menus". Many DVDs are authored in such a way that audio and subtitle tracks are "matrixed" through the menu structure. If you did not keep the menus, no default commands for tracks are sent from the DVD to the player, so the player chooses it's own default. Always "Preserve Menus"... they don't take up much data space if compression is the way you make your backups.
