In the last several months, I've started to see an increasing number of opinions and reports around the net regarding the longevity of Taiyo Yuden DVD media. The main concern has been focused around bonding, the way the two halfs of a disk are kept together, and whether over time, air and/or moisture would be able to get in between, leading to oxidation and the destruction of the disk. Some have gone so far as to recommend the avoidance of TY media at the present time, until the perceived problem is resolved.

Would anyone, including docTY, like to comment?

well, well, well...seems like someone is believing more than they should reading on the web...

you should know, as well as anyone else that frequents various websites/forums that each "community" have their own "OPINIONS" about whichever media...

i've read a few places where this "bonding issue" is becoming more and more apparent, so this isn't just a rumor of sorts, but based on something solid as other members have pointed out...

i would simply suggest to take it with a grain of salt, i'm not going to defend Taiyo Yuden for an issue that other consumers have noticed lately...there very well could be a bonding issue that TY needs to work out to increase the quality of their media sold in the marketplace...

but as to your quote, i wouldn't put too much faith in it PERSONALLY, some users will inevitably run into problems that you or i may never experience, would I tell everyone to avoid using TY now since a few bad reports are popping up around the web? definitely not...am i the least bit worried about the TY media that i purchase today or a few weeks ago or in the near future? not one bit...

there is validity to your statement of "bonding issues," but to worry about what "others" have experienced, and believing ONE website/forum over that of the next, that is just personal perception and will be treated as such by me and other members here at AfterDawn~ :)

if there is a definitive decline in Taiyo Yuden's quality control and manufacturing process, i will be the 1st to "jump ship" and recommend other media, but until this issue is official addressed by Taiyo Yuden, i will treat it as "hearsay" until FACTS, not opinions, are brought to my attention to prove it otherwise...

docTY~

p.s. if you can provide FACTUAL basis on these "bonding issues" negritude, i'm all ears to getting to the bottom of this as well...
