With all the new media ...mainly 16x..whereas it used to be only 8x...i notice a lot of people are venturing from burning at 4x & going at 8x now..i'm going to buy some verbatims tomorrow probaly the dvd-r.. because my sony burners only allow 1,2,& 2.4x burn with +r media..but anyway have any of the people here who burn at 8x on verbatim media had any playback issues?

nope... :)

i've been burning 8x rated media @8x for quite some time now, and continue to do so for the 16x rated media as well; as long as it's quality media and your particular drive has the firmware tables (media ID tables) to recognize the faster media, you should have no problems...assuming your drive IS capable of burning at the faster speeds and your firmware recognizes the faster media~ :)

but, it's more about just "testing" for yourself...some people stick with 4x burns regardless of media because they are comfortable with that speed and get THEIR best results burning @4x...i personally, on the other hand, have always burned @8x for MY OWN best results...it varies from setup to setup, so i can't make a blanket statement to say that burning @8x will be "better" for you...and in the same breath, i can't say that sticking to burnin @4x will be "better" either...try both speeds and see which produce better results for you...i don't get pixellation/freezing/issues when i burn @8x, but others do...

docTY~

I am burning at 8X since Xmas when i got my new LG 2166 DL. I do DL+Rs at 2.4X. Before I was burning 8X+Rs at 4X and was also getting good results. I have quality 16X Verbs media but have not attempted to burn at 16Xs. Presently burning the last of a batch of TY labeled 8X TDKs at 8Xs also no issues.

because i used to spend most of my time here solving endless logfile woes, plus my own setup wouldn't do 8x previously (consistently), i used to advocate 4x to posters as it was all about getting ppl up and burning again consistently; the onus would then be on them to raise the speed when they were ready.

anyways, one of my current burners, the LG 4163B (in a USB2.0 enclosure) does 8x with ease, the LG 4167B on the other hand nearly always fails at 8x. it did this when it was USB2.0 also. this is using sexy Verbatim TY discs or any Verbatim discs i have, which are mostly 16x +R MCC004 (made in India) at the moment. the 4167B works consistently at 4x (so far) so doesn't seem to be faulty. as long as it works 100% of the time i could care less :)

i only recently discovered the joys of multiple recorder burning in Nero, so use that at every opportunity. unfortunately though, the 4167B lets me down here too so only managed the odd time to get a dual 8x burn to work. but dual burn 4x are 100% fine each and every time, or as i say, i just use the 4163B on it's own at 8x if i don't want to hang around.

However i'm looking at getting some of the sexy new Benq 1650's so i may be able to get 8x consistently on dual burning yet...

I have been burning at 8x since I got my second DVDRW DL drive. Both are liteons and both have had no problems going at 8x. The discs have not crapped out or had any issues playing. Of course, they've all been either Verbatim or TY.

Quality 16x drive+ Quality media: 8x should be no trouble at all. Look at those verbatim 16x. I myself, have better results at 8x and 12x. Slower 4x speed is ok,but errors start soaring. All my 2.4x backups had too many crc errors on them when I tried to re-rip them.

Now the Sony +1x-16x (SonyD21)aren't quite so lucky. 4x seems to have the lowest errors-still not even close to my 12x verbatim MCC-004 scans. I got a 2.4x SonyD21 one here to scan.

I've had some crappy 16x writers the were pcs of crap. That's why I stick to the quality DVD-RW drives-to get my performance up,and coasters almost eliminated.
