Hey I am new to these forums. I have a soft modded xbox and a 1.5 psp both with tons of emu homebrew. I love the things. Now someone recently gave me their ps2 to fix/mod. I have been reading up on the ps2 independance memory card xploit and i am a little confused/unsure of what to do/ how to go about it. My buddy has an original swap magic disc i can borrow but he swears he needs to put it in every time he runs homebrew or backup. This is my understanding that if I take the front cover off the drive tray, carve a swap card from one of the many available templates take his original swap magic cd run it then swap it for my ps2 independance installer cd-r i can install the needed files (from a ps1 game the .elf and title/db?) to a memory card and prestor xploited ps2 that can run unsigned code right? Not needing his swap magic again or a retail harddrive? (i want to do this without any hard drive for that matter) any help is greatly appreciated sorry for the newbish querries but i cant seem to find a step by step answering these q's especially without me having retail hd....

get a program called independence compiler 4.1 it does everything for an exploit disc and all very easily, it creates the TITLE.DB, lets you choose your files to be added, then outputs it to a cd image ready to burn. Burn it to a cd then load it up with your SM and it will install.

If you dont wont to use his SM again to load other backups make sure cogswaploader is one of the files on your disc.
For cogswap you have to first insert a large (file size 4.35gb)disc wait for it to be detected then use your made slide card to swap out the disc with your backup, then hit X.

so i make 2 discs? One the independance compiler on cdr? THe other the large file cogswap on a dvd so i can give my bud swap magic back? Remember i dont ever and dont have a harddrive just a memory card thx so much for helping...

Nope just make one cd with the independence compiler program it does everything you need.

Help HElp anyone pls my buddy finally got around to lending me to swap magic discs one on dvd (2.0) the other cd (3.0) I have properly made a swap card from template on this site that part works fine but when installing the discs the 3.0 cd goes to red smoke pls insert playstation 2 disc screen and when i load the 3.0 swap magic dvd i get a PLAystation 2 initial game load up screen then a blk screen and then it goes to my memory card/disc menu...? What gives? is it the discs? The ps2 version? any ideas? help me pls./.

update i got the cd 3.0 to the swap magic star screen? it says to boot program? I use swap card put my independance installer in it switched to a red star screen with like bright colors at the borders? but it hangs? any ideas?

You might need to press square for special boot.
Load SM3 cd
slidecard out disc
replace disc with exploit cd
close tray with slidecard
press X or maybe square

And if it still doesnt work its your brand of cd's get some verbatim or taiyo yuden.

pls pls someone replc here quick update on my progress i used a tutorial on www.magicswapfix.com to make a cog swap exploit installer disc which did boot up (yay!!) but after install complete when i put in my trigger disc no luck lol now after retracing my steps i think i made the title db with SLUS-00277 when it really was SLUS_00277 doh!! so i am attempting reburns tonight but i take it i am almost there? i tried to make a disc with independance compiler 4.1 but it never works i think that has to do with my media thought so far only maxell cd-r booted can i use swap magic 3.0 disc cd to boot dvd backups? or do i need the swap magic dvd for that? i was thinking of maybe making an installer 4.1 dvd? wierd when i made the cog swap installer from swapmagicfix guide that cd was only like 40mb but it booted compiler was like 129mb? any ideas suggestions good tutorial links?

hey i got it to work believe it or not my ps1 justs boots to cogswapper off of memory card thx for all the help....
in addition i also got independance compiler 4.1 to work as well....
