I have looked over several postings on this great site, but each one is a little different. I have the slim version of the ps2, i know how to back up the disc fine, but what is everything i need to get for the ps2 itself? do I need the special flip top, swap magic, a mod chip and a slide card? i just need some help with exactly wehat i need to get to get started? Any help would be great

You will need either a modchip or Swap Magic with a mod tool.

Here are some examples:
Modchip

Swap Magic
http://www.modchip.com/ps2/magickeysorder.php
http://www.modchip.com/ps2/v12slimkit.php
http://www.modchip.com/ps2/magickeys38order.php (New Swap Magic, with Action Replay capability)

As far as the mod tool, make sure that you don't get the slide card because it is not compatible with the slim PS2's.

You can also self-mod your PStwo for free to work with the Swap Magic discs since it's a slimline. Here's the method I use myself; it's served me well for over a year now: http://www.geocities.com/pstwoslimline/tapetissue.htm
