On a two sided disk (Elf in my case), I'd like to back up the bonus features from both sides in addition to the widescreen version of the movie onto a dvd-5. I was wondering if it's possible to do with dvd shrink and keep the menu intact. If it isn't possible, would clonedvd be able to do it? thanks in advance

This is basically like joining two sides of a flipper disc. Not exactly an easy task when you want to keep menus, and Shrink won't do it for you. I don't use Clone, but I'm sure it doesn't either.

I just merged separate DVDs using PGCEdit. It is free and can do the trick with a bit of editing.

The thing is though that depending on what Elf looks like internally, it may be a difficult task.

I am pretty sure that I have Elf. If I have it, I can attempt a merge and send you (upload) a file fix to merge the 2 sides.

As for CloneDVD, for sure it doesn't...

DVDRemake Pro can do it rather easily, but that software is not free. I think it is $50. All you would have to do is "tools=>disc merge". It will merge both discs and give you a "Please select Disc" menu.

The wonder tool PGCedit can pull this off, but it does require some knowledge of DVD structure and navigation that this fellow may or may not have. PGCedit is my go to tool though. Love it.
Remake might be a good choice for a novice. Having the "select disc" screen isn't too annoying, and it's certainly easy.

thanks for the responses. I am not familiar with PCGEdit but will look it up and try it out. JaguarGod, if you do figure it out, and if i manage to get the basics of PCGEdit, please send the fix my way. Thanks. I had tried burning both sides of the disk to my HD, and tried to merge the bonus features, but after I renamed the files, CloneDVD wouldn't acknowledge my renamed files.

Yeah PGCEdit is great!!!

@icon1010

Ok, I have the movie, but I do not have Disc 1...This makes no sense. I have everything in the stupid case, but not Disc 1!!! Are you sure it is double sided or 2 discs?? If it is double sided, someone must have put a label on side 1 of mine....

Looking at Disc 2 though, it has the extra features + the full-screen. There is a good chance you can replace the titleset in PGCEdit.

Rip both DVDs. Save the Widescreen to c:\Elf\Audio_TS and the Fullscreen to C:\Elf\VIDEO_TS. I choose these directories for transfer speed when importing.

Now, open the Fullscreen version in PGCEdit.

Right click on the Menu for the Movie. Then select "Import Menu". It will tell you that the current menu will be lost, blah blah... Click Ok. Browse to the AUDIO_TS folder and select the IFO from the Widescreen Main Movie and import it. When it asks, select to MOVE the VOB files.

Next, click on the main movie. Now go to "File=>Replace VTST". It will give you another message, but click OK. Browse to the AUDIO_TS Folder and select the IFO of the Widescreen movie again. When it asks, select to move the VOB files. It only takes 1 second...

Delete the contents of AUDIO_TS when you are finished.

Now, save your DVD and test playback. If everything is OK, and I do not see why it wouldn't be, you can import to Shrink.

You will love pgcedit once you learn it. It's hard to find things it can't do.
As far as this disc goes, Vobblanker can also do it. You can use it's replace feature to easily replace the FS version with the WS version. The way this disc is set up with the FS and extras on one disc, it looks like a really easy replace will get you exactly what you wanted.

had some mixed results. thanks JaguarGod for your help. I am not sure I would have known what to do without your instructions. I did manage to get the bonus features from the full screen side separated but when i tried to combine it with the wide screen movie (plus the bonuses on the ws side), shrink wouldn't allow me to combine them. i will try again later today.

I was just thinking, the main menu for the Widescreen probably does not have a button to access the extra features or probably takes you to a screen that says "exra features in Disc 2". If this is the case, do not swap the menus.

I will see if I can get a guide written for you. Since I do not have disc 1 of the movie, I will have to use two different movies though...

I finished the guide and here is he download link:

http://rapidshare.de/files/17937417/Swapping_Movies_from_Two_diff...

For anyone else that is interested in this guide, note that this will Only work for movies similar to Elf.

By this I mean DVDs that have 2 discs/2 sides where one has one aspect ration movie only and the other has the different aspect ratio with Special features.

If say Disc 1 is widescreen like Elf, you can swap the main movie into the Full Screen Disc 2.

The reason I say this will only work for movies like this is because I pretty much wrote this guide for ion1010. Also, all that is being done is a swap of the main movies. There is no further editing or merging of menus which would be required to make a swap of 2 different movies look good and work perfectly.

For those who know how to use PGCEdit and are familiar with DVD Commands and structure, this guide can be used as a base for doing more like merging discs and more advanced swapping.

Many thanks to JaguarGod for creating this guide. I haven't been able to try it out yet, but will post my results as soon as I can.
