I just got a new double layer DVD burner and made copies of two movies without any compression. The copies play fine on the computer, but not on my DVD player. I get a "Disc Error" message on the player. Any idea what could be wrong?

Have you checked your player's owner's manuel to see if it supports the media that you used?

I used DVD+R DL media. My player instructions only says it will play DVD-VIDEO and so far it has played all the single-sided compressed DVD's I've made.

I don't know what "booktype" means.

In DVD shrink the book type, can be found on the "Burn Settings" tab. This will come up once you select BACKUP. The book type designates what type of disk your drive or player will recognize the disk as. Using the book type setting will replicate a DVD-ROM disk. You shouldn't use this on DVD-R disks though, as they don't allow change and are automatically set up to be a DVD-ROM.

this is not correct no -R can be set as DVD rom only + Rs
To create a sucsessful dual layer backup you can use dvddecyptor to read in iso mode and then burn thus preserving the origional layer break . (also select bitsetting for enhanced compatability )
or use slysofts cloncd another option . If you wish to reathour the disc you can use shrink to rip the movie to disc and use software that will correctly place an appropriate layer break for you .I personally use discjuggler and have made 30+ dual layer backups with this meathod no coasters yet.also use good quality discs verbs are the best I have used so far also have used CMCs with good results
hope this helps

I think you misunderstood what I said. What I said was that DVD-Rs can not be changed, and in addittion they don't need to be changed as they will automatically be recognized as a DVD-ROM. These are what original DVDs (not DLs) were made with, and set the standard.
