I have found the lots of complications about buying-modding a europe-pal-ps2 console and using it later in America (I have to buy a multiformat TV set!) so I would like to give a try with an xbox. So my question is: can I buy and softmod a pal-xbox (Germany) and later use it in America buy configuring the Xbox settings? What about the games?

There is the odd game that may give you some trouble..psychonauts and lord of the rings..the third age seem to be Hard Region coded..otherwise there is really no problem, just try changing the game region setting to default or auto..
The biggest problem is going to be with the psu..US=110V 60Hz..If you're moving permanant it may be better to buy a us box or psu when you get there...see
Hey, thanks a lot! I guess I'll follow your advise and avoid all the damn complications on games and consoles (it's going to be a long long year though, jeje). There's always the ol'good pc games.

Like I said I've only had a problem with 1 or 2 games out of a couple of hundred...Don't let it put you off, the xbox is the best..softmod it and turn it into a pc as well!! There are people stateside who will kill for an old euro xbox with a samsung drive...you could easily swap it for a us one when you get there!!
I see you know about it much more than I, I'm glad. So, let's put it easy (remember I'm a newb): I buy a xbox PAL in Germany, I follow the instructions to softmod it (though some of them are a little confusing becuase they use some terms that I don't know, I'll do my research) and I'll be able to play and see in my PAL german-tv. One year from now I come back to the US and NOT TO HARD I'll change the config in the xbox and be able to play the same in a NTSC-us-tv, I'm I right? Any link to how to do this last? A good very-very-basic guide to softmode? What about those games that you can... u know, on the net... that are mean to xbox,are the ok? Thanks again!
