I want to uninstall this program. I tried it in add/remove but it said the file was not valid. I went to the program folder and the uninstall file says unins000.exe. When i click it it says file not valid. How do I get rid of this? Please explain it in simple terms as I have no idea what I'm doing.
Thanks

If you can't uninstall the program using the add/remove programs option and can't use its own uninstaller, then you'll have to do it manually, sorry can't make it any simpler than this when done this way. Here's how:

Uninstall Programs Manually
Just because Windows XP has the Add/Remove Programs feature it doesn't mean your application will appear in the list. Furthermore, even if it does appear, it's no guarantee that the uninstall feature will work. When you run across one of these situations the items listed below will help in getting rid of the application. Be aware that these steps may not remove everything associated with the application and can impact other applications on the computer. Have a backup or restore point and use caution.

Find the directory for the application and delete all the files in the directory. Delete the directory.

Open/run regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the DVD43 application. Delete the folder.

Open/run regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the DVD43 application. Delete the folder.

To remove the application entry from Add/Remove Programs (if present) open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and find the folder for the DVD43 application. Delete the folder.

Some applications have Services attached to them. If this is the case, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services, locate and delete the service.

In Windows Explorer, navigate to the individual user settings and delete program references. Common places to check would be:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]

Note: Above, when you see..%YourUserID%, this is usually a folder with your xp ID/name on it.. example

C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

would look like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Johnl123\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If no entries were found in the previous step and the application launches automatically, navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
and delete the entry.

How do I do this? I thought maybe I could go somewhere and get the uninstall file but I guess that would be too easy.
Thanks

This procedure is actually very simple to do, just looks like alot of stuff.

You should create a restore point just incase you do something wrong and you need to undo it, to do this in xp:

goto:
Start--programs--accessories--system tools--system restore

choose to create a restore point, click next, give it a name, click create.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If you need to undo everything because you did something wrong, goto the same place. Choose restore my computer to an earlier time, click on the name you gave it, click next.

Question: Have you ever edited your registry before?

EDIT:
Another option, I don't know how long you've been using DVD43, but you can restore your PC to a time before DVD43 was ever installed. Just one note, if you do this, what ever changes you made to the PC since that time will also be undone.

I've never done anything to the computer before. My brother took care of it but he died. I took it to a shop to have a DVD writer put in and the place installed DVD43. He made other changes and I don't know all of what he did. I use any DVD and clone DVD. I'm having real problems. My computer keeps "encountering problems" and shuts down. I'm going to follow everything you've said step by step. I'll wait for you to get this to see if you want me to do something else. One more really dumb question... when it say's find the directory and delete it, is that the DVD43 folder on my hard drive or is a directory something else?
Thanks

Yes, directory is just another name for folder.

dcorn, sorry for your loss.
If you haven't made any changes to the PC like installed additional software since DVD43 was installed, then I strongly suggest you do a system restore to a point when DVD43 was not on your PC, it's safer if you're not sure how to edit your registry. Just try and remember when DVD43 was installed and restore to a point before that installation took place.

First, make sure you have your keys for anydvd and clonedvd2 stored in a safe place, like on a diskett or you could lose them when you restore the PC.

goto:
Start--programs--accessories--system tools--system restore

Choose restore my computer to an earlier time, click on the date before the installation of DVD43, click next and wait.

When I took it in besides installing that program, they installed the DVD writer and the service pack 2. I have all the CD's for these but I really don't know what he did first and what I've done since. If I have a problem I can just restore it if I make the restore point right? I don't really care if I have the service pack2. I wasn't having a problem before he installed it. Do I need it? If I restore it to back then, how will I install the CD's for the reader and writer he put in?

You can restore back to any point where a restore point was created (they'll be in bold on the calendar displayed), if you have problems after, you can always go back/reverse the process.

You should have SP2 installed on your PC because of the added security features among other things, but if your copy of XP is legal, you can alway go to the Microsoft update wesite and get your updates there.

Note: As a precaution, make sure you have your reg keys for anydvd and clonedvd2 stored in a safe place, like on a diskett or you could lose them when you restore the PC.

If your talking about an internal DVD burner, no need to worry, the OS will take care of that, but if there was software that was installed like a burning program or a DVD player/decoder, you'll have to reinstall from the CD that came with the drive.

OK, My XP came with the computer. I have the CD for the service pack 2 so I can reinstall that. If I have to do anything with it I'll be lost. I have copies of every program I use. The Cd that came with the writer has Nero on it that I like. Do I need to install that CD to have the writer working? I could use a different program if I needed to. Probably there is something more up to date. Should I back up everything?

You'll need Nero if you want to burn DVDs or CDs, after it's reinstalled you should make sure it's up to date, you can get the updates free from the Nero site.

Backup all that you feel is important and don't want to risk losing.

This wont really help with your problem. But I personally wouldnt go back to that PC Shop. You asked them to install a DVD-Burner not software and SP2 and such. Even if they were trying to help it is not their choice to freely install software on a customers pc (unless you gave them permission, Ex. sign some form, verbal agreement, etc.)

You're right. I would never go back there. Last night I tried to go back in my restore but I can only go back 1 month. I thought there would be a place where I could put in a date. This was installed in September. Am I out of luck doing it this way?
Thanks

You should be allowed to go back as far as January of 2006 by clicking on the arrow buttons on the calendar.

catfreak is right about anydvd uninstalling DVD43 when you install it (will attempt anyway), but I didn't mention it because you apparently have both of them currently installed on your PC, this shouldn't of been done since they don't play well together.

What you can try is to remove/uninstall anydvd and install the current version 5.9.5.6, durining the re-installation of anydvd, it should try and remove DVD43 from your PC.

You can get anydvd here;

So I can't restore it back to September? If I uninstall any DVD and reinstall it, will it get rid of DVD43 even if the uninstall file say's it does not exist? If it can't uninstall it, can I still put in AnyDVD or can I restore it back to yesterday?

When doing a system restore, you can always go back.

"DVD43 has got to be the bad guy causing your problems"

Try reinstalling the current version of anydvd and see if it will uninstall DVD43 for you, if not, I don't think it's wise for you to try the manual uninstall of DVD43 since it appears you maybe uncomfortable with doing that (making registry changes can be damaging to your PC if done incorrectly), you can always stop DVD43 from running by right clicking on the yellow face in the task bar and chosing disable or exit.

Another option is to prevent DVD43 from running on startup.
goto-->start, choose run, type "msconfig" in the open field and click ok. Click on the startup tab and look for anything that points to the DVD43 startup file, uncheck it and click ok. Reboot, click ok to any message that comes up reguarding system changes being made also click on don't show this message again. If you unchecked the correct file, DVD43 should no run on startup.
