Problems with dvd/dvd-r drives

ive just invested in a new pioneer 105 dvd-r burner. But as usual with me i have a problem!

Whenever i put a disc into either the new drive, or my existing dvd rom drive, and try to open it, it just locks up, and no amount of waiting will make it work.

But, the moment i eject this disc, the whole computer will work again. Ive no idea why this is happening.

The only software i am using is record now max.

any ideas whats up with my machine?

I'd say it's broken.


But seriously......
(1) What O/S are you using?
(2) What IDE channel is it on?
(3) Are there any other optical drives in your system? (I'm assuming yes because you mention another DVD drive)
(3a) If yes, then are the jumpers set correctly?
(4) Have you gone to the manufacture's website to download current drivers? (This may not apply; depending on question#1)
