I have a single layer burner, copied a long movie with 1Click at 45% compression. There was tiling and quality loss.Is Shrink capable of copying the movie to 2 discs with no compression or am I trying for something that cannot be done.

Have you tried reauthoring so that you only burn the movie? Or removing unwanted audio and subtitle streams? Or possibly you could take the parts of the movie that you don't watch as often, like the menus and previews, etc... to lowest compression and this will free up more space for the movie itself.

That's strange, considering that a single layer DVD is actually about 54% of a DL DVD, I wonder why a DL would have to be compressed to 45?

The movie was KingKong..I don't know if it was a dl or not,I'm fairly new at all this.I fooled around with Shrink this morning before work...It analyzed and said 54%.I don't know where to go from here or what to do next. Will it split the movie into 2 discs or will it just compress it onto one?I'm trying hard not to buy a dl unit right now but I guess I may have to.

That's about the best your going to get 53%-54% with king kong movie only using shrink. When a movie drops into the low 50's high 40's in compression the only way to get better quality is using another program such as rebuilder (that's what I used for king kong, turned out GREAT!) or using a DL disk.

sorry for the double post. But to answer your question it will fit on one disc after you finish with shrink. and the quality isn't to bad with the movie only on king kong. One thing you can do to improve quality when using shrink on a movie with such high compression is after you hit backup in shrink it brings up the the backup box asking for the target and all that stuff if you look you will see a tab at the top that says quality settings check the perform deep analysis box. Another program that gives great quality on a single layer is dvd rebuilder but if you get rebuilder get the one with the installer!

Shrink will make a two disk copy of the movie, however you will loose your menu. You would need to use Start and End Frames in Shrink. However, you can compress the movie using deep analysis and Quality settings at Max Smooth for the higher compressed movie. I have done this movie using Nero Recode, which is the same Shrink program only faster. It came out good. I have also done it using DVDRB and it came out excellent. Both were done on a single layer disk.

Here is a guide that explains Shrink fully

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=63fd9ea0d669cdf5...

You can get the free version of DVD Rebuilder here, choose the 0.97 freeware version

http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/

Guide and setup is here.

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=55302

Read the quickstart guide first, you will need to dl the program avisynth. Install it first and then run the RB program.

I thank you very much for the links and info.Have you ever used 1Click?I was really disapointed with the compressed copy of Kong, everything else I have used it for was pretty much perfect. You really think these other programs are that much better?I'm going to try them for sure..thanx again!

@sandgyp, 1Click is a prog that I had in the early days of my Dvd Backup days and it was one that I quickly got rid of...it is still on the computer, but the other Porgrams: Dvd Rebuilder, Recode 2, CloneDVD 2, and Shrink can produce a much better picutre in therms of quality, sharpness and overall close to the original, even when compressed greatly. I would follow the advice from the team at Ad and use the quality enhancements on Shrink, use good media (Ty's, Verbs) burn at 4x or 6x and see the qulaity difference. I backed up, like arnierbear, King Kong using Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic and it looks awe-some, and that's viewing it on a 55 inch 16X9 HDTV. Shrink, Recode 2, and CloneDVD 2 allows splitting the disk, I prefer CloneDVD 2 when doing this as I can keep the menus, which when dealing with a long movie allows you to go to the chapter where you stopped. Again this is my opinion and many others at ad have there's but I do not use or like the 1-Click program. Better programs out there for you to use, more user control and user friendliness.

Shrink will put the movie on two disks, exact copy, no compression. I did it and it works great. Any long movie I put it on two disc's. You don't need the menues, because you can use the chapter selection through the dvd player.

AnyDVD is my preferred program, and is usually right on the spot with an update for troublesome DVD protection. But, the free DVDFab Decrypter will also get the job done, and they have been keeping up with the new encryption. You can also try DVD43 which works like AnyDVD, but their updates are not as quick.

Basically at this point..here at work, processing info between phone calls...it would seem that I can leave AnyDVD running in the background and use Shrink to copy and burn..is that correct?

@sandgyp, I keep AnyDVD running all the time and never have an issue with it conflicting with Decrypter (Dvd). Some have had issue, but slysoft has a way of allowing AnyDVD to work alongside DVD Decrypter. arniebear mentioned Dvd Fab Decrypter. I use that as well, when I have a movie that has dummy sectors, I'll use Dvd Fab Decrypter or VOB Blanker, what is interesting is that CloneDVD 2 (whihc I love) actually fixes those disks prior to processing and they play flawlessly. Take your time and learn, as we all are at ad. Ask questions and you will also be providing answers as well. Have a good day.

@sandygyp,

If you want to try a single disc backup, I posted a fix for King Kong that will minimize compression. You can get 55.4% with a fully functioning main menu, plus there are lots of other bonuses to applying the fix which are stated in the ReadME:

http://rapidshare.de/files/16688470/King_Kong.zip.html

I made it for the Widescreen single disc version though and I do not know if it will work for a different version.

Mine is a full screen version...don't guess its worth a try?I tried Shrink on Kong last night at about 11:00 on deep analyze, when I got up this morning it still said it had 2hrs 45mins left...is this normal or have I got an underlying problem?
