@arniebear, sorry I haven't responded back to ya my friend, been away from the system. Yes, I have used it and like it. Simple right click on the fox and select Rip video to HD...pretty cool. Makes working with Recode 2 and the problem dvds easier. Hey, have a good day.

@sandygyp,
It doesn't hurt to try out the download that I posted. Here is how you can give it a try...
Follow the ripping instructions in the readme.
Open PGCEdit and open the DVD from the files that I posted.
Now, select the main movie in PGC edit. Go to "file=>replace VTST". Now, import the full-screen version from your rip. Here is a guide on replacing titles. Use it mainly for the screenshots and to see what I am saying. I think that King Kong will work perfectly with this guide:
http://rapidshare.de/files/17937417/Swapping_Movies_from_Two_diff...
Give it a test in trace mode. Also, note, even though I am using 2 completely different movies do not attempt to replace say King Kong with Matrix or something like that in the future using this guide. I wrote the guide for swapping identical movies like King Kong full with King Kong Wide or Elf Full with Elf Wide, etc...
Your Analysis with Shrink is taking way too long. I did this movie on a 700MHz PC and it took about 90 minutes to analyze. This is CPU dependent, so make sure you are not doing anything on the PC, i.e. restart the PC then disable everything unecessary before beginning Shrink. Click the Backup or analysis and see if the time is OK.
If not, then you could have some driver issues or your HDD could be very fragmented. Try Disc defragmentor first. If you are analyzing from the Disc, rip to the hard drive first. Your HDD will be much faster and there is less stress on the laser. Use DVD Decrypter or DVDFab or AnyDVD ripper to rip to your hard drive. If rip speed is slow, then your DMA may not be correct.
As for the AnyDVD ripper, you can just process the movie with FixVTS, but that will not do anything. AnyDVD ripper is just FixVTS and it is meant to correct issues with IFO Structures on ARccOS & Ripguard corrupted DVDs like Narnia, Dick & Jane, Cave, etc...
However, what it will do is rip the movie to your hard drive, so it is a nice addition to the program!!

This is it
Right now do not know why you should have the hang, unless there is something wrong with the disk.

No I do not think the source will come automatically, you can search for it. Usually the default is to your rip drive, but if you have more than one, then you would have to choose which source you want to use.

If you hit the file folder tab beside the source or output you can then browse to what you want

Ok...now please be patient with a newbie and help me plot the simplest course here.Once I accomplish ripping the movie to the harddrive, would the next logical step be deep analysis in Shrink? If so is DVD Decrypter what I need to load to burn to disc?

You would run your file through Shrink and I would recommend deep analysis and AEC of Smooth to Max Smooth. This will take sometime to encode but the compression rate for this movie is 51% and that is movie only so it is better to use the deep analysis and AEC settings. Yes your output would be iso and burn with Decrypter if that is what you use to burn.

You can try opening your ripped file with 1click and see if it recognizes it and will process and burn it for you, if that is an easier method.

Make sure you use good media and burn at 4x it may help with skips and freezes.

I'm using Verbatim 8x at this point,I've seen reference to 16x but I've never seen any in person..I guess they may be more quality prone.Have'nt had any skipping or freeze problems, just this tileing and jittery appearance in places on Kong.Could be I'll just have to get a dual layer machine. You got any favorites?

Dual Layer backup is a good way to go if you want a quality backup of a highly compressed movie. If you want to spend some money then my choice is the Plextor 716a, it is the best you can get with an 8meg buffer. Also the Plex 750 is available at a reasonable price but still high. For the moderate price the best IMO is BenQ they are good drives and also Lite-on. I recommend these because they are capable of booktyping media giving you the option of using +R media but bitsetting to DVD-Rom making it compatible with all DVD players. Nec is also a good drive but can only booktype/bitset using modified fw. If you are looking to buy online here are two places to go, both offer these drives and the prices are below retail.

What about HP,Walmart actually has an internal and external unit easily available. They also stock a couple of Liteon, are all there units ok or do I need to look for the booktyping and bitsetting you spoke of?

Some HP's will booktype, the ones with the lightscribe do. I had a HP640c from WalMart and it bitset, the drive was also a rebadged BenQ. Lite-on drives will if you use the utility or some other third party program to do it. Booktyping is a nice feature to have if you want to use +R media and make it compatible with all players, as some older players will not play the +R format. Also, I think +R DL are the better media, so those would need to be booktyped. As I said I had an HP and it was fine, I also have a Lite-on 1633 and it works well too. At least with WalMart you have a generous return policy if the drive does not work out for you.

The original links you sent are very interesting. The k-probe program for dvd-rom conversion is fascinating.Does this mean dvd-rom is the way to go for ultiment dvd player compatibility?
