Some here have said the dr. skip or skipdr. works. I dunno. I never gathered the courage to buy it lol. It does make sense. It basically resurfaces the disc. But I dunno.

Anyone else?

How does that toothpaste mod work?

The toothpaste works for deep scratches .. you can also use car polish ... and I've also heard of people using ultra-fine wet/dry sandpaper and wet sanding the disc ...

dilligaf9- My friend never tried it with a movie yet but my Grandson managed to Scratch GTA Dan Andreas Ps 2 Game disc beyond playability not very long after Xmas last year ! Which was a big Bummer cause the game cost SanTa %50.00 new ! We took it to a Game store Called the Game Exchange or something on that order and for $3.00 they resurfaced it on a proffesional quality machine ! it looked brand new after and played like new also ! My understanding is the same can be done with DVD Movies as well ! So perhaps you might want to check your local game shops & possibly the video stores ! Good luck & keep on burning!

Thanks catfreak, mr pink, bigtoy and daman.. I tried the toothpaste and it did not work, maybe the wrong flavor? I went out and purchashed some Brasso for 2.99 and BOY DOES THIS STUFF WORK! This is most definately the best low budget fix out there. It made the disc look new again taking out 99 percent of the scratches. It is just a little hard to get off the residue, you have to wait till it dries to a powder and buff it off.. Thanks again ...

As for the SkipDr. aka DiscDr.; I worked in entertainment retail for 3 years of my life (three years of my life wasted on that, why?) and one of the first things I learned was that the various 'Dr.' products function by actually scraping off a very incredibly thin (Probably half a mm) layer of the disc, to buff out the overall disc, and make scratches less apparent.

Trouble is, as soon as you do this on a DVD of any kind, or any high capacity disc (Not the BLUE ps2 discs, they are regular cds) you instantly destroy them. First try. Working for a video store, we would get them in, see the regulation distortion created on the disc by the product, test them to confirm DOA and then charge the customer for destroying the disc. It really sucked because some retard rented three movies the day they came out and did it to all three before returning them. Working for Gamestop, we wouldn't accept games with the "Mark of (Dr.)Doom" on the bottom, unless they were uncredibly new titles, which we would reduce the value of by marking and sending out for refurb. That product family flat out, DESTROYS higher capacity discs, and I warn anyone considering the use of it to stay away.

As for toothpaste, somewhat challenging to do right, Brasso works much better. But both solutions are viable.

Professional resurfacing DOES work. Plus they put on a new protection coating. Looks brand new. We are talking about originals?

Funny thing there is scratch resistant technology, and yet the studios refuse to put it on their products.....they just want us to replace, buy, buy, buy!!!!

It doesn't take much to scratch, a grain of sand in the drive, or for that matter in your case. My dvd case for Schindler's List (original) has a burr sticking up that I have tried to file down. Ended up putting a piece a cloth to stop the disc from moving around. I have many more with the same problem.

One of my kids put a blank on top of a program disc that he had installed on the computer. I paid BIG money for this program. After he finished he was backing up files to cds and didn't look in the drive first. Thankfully, just the blank was destroyed. I could see this scenerio happening in dvd players.

@hansom, good to know about the dr.skip/skip dr.

I always use NEVR-DULL for minor scratches. Probably basically the same thing as Brasso. For major scratches I use Eagle One mag-chrome-aluminum wheel polish. Bought both at the local car parts store for next to nothing and can't tell you how many Netflix movies this stuff has saved!

MS Windows XP MCE SP2, Intel P4 3.20 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX5600, Seagate 7200 rpm 200GB HDD, Sony SDMHS93 19" LCD, Field Value
Audio Adapter Creative SB0317 Audigy LS Sound Card, Liteon models,SHM-165H6S, 167to6c, All burns exclusively on genuine Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim media!

Professional Resurfacing works GREAT! But it isn't always convenient to get to. I'm live in San Diego. I am in walking distance of a mall, and in less than ten minutes driving could be at any of more than 30 local shopping centers. But there isn't any place around that does resurfacing...... Weird.

If you can't get a hold of brasso; go to gamestop, they sell a disc fix liquid, in their brand name. It *is* Brasso. Same exact stuff, in a smaller bottle. I suggest that, it's great.

In summary; PROFESSIONAL resurfacing(Which uses a very incredibly expensive machine) Great. Brasso; Great. DiskDr.; Bad!
