It worked great for months now, it says everything copied great but when I check the movie, it won't play anything. It doesn't copy correctly and i just waste a disc. What else is out there that can help. would extracting from shrink then coppying in Nero work? and how do I do it? I can't seem to find a program on Nero that will let me pull it from a file. It always ask for disc to disc. HELP PLEASE

Here a two choices that will work.
1. Download the 21 day free trial of AnyDVD and CloneDVD. These can be found at http://www.slysoft.com/en/. Very easy to use.
2. A very wise man named Alkohol came up with this method. I have yet to hear of a movie that could not be backed up using this method.
http://www.k-probe.com/backup-movies-DVDDecrypter-PgcEdit-VobBLan...
In the future you may try the search function here. Not trying to sound harsh, but that question has probably been asked thousands of times. I had to use the search function myself to find Alkohol's guide. You will find many people have dedicated much time and energy to making information available and easy to understand. The least we less knowledgeable can do is take the time to look. For future reference you may want to be more specific in your questions. Things that people like to know are exactly which movie you are trying back up, all programs you have tried, and specific errors you are recieving. This will make the answers you reciece much more helpful to you.
I didn't mean to sound rude or put you down. When I was new here I had no clue. I have learned everything I wanted to know, plus much more. Best of luck.

If I can learn here so can you.

DVD Shrink is a great program but is no longer supported and has trouble with some of the new protections being used.

Slysoft's AnyDVD is very good at backing up your DVD's and is regularly updated plus very easy to use. There is a one off payment for lifetime updates too, which makes it great value.

You could try AnyDVD. Then you could just use Shrink as usual. It has a 21 day free trial and sits quietly in the background doing it's thing.

Many of us here at Afterdawn use and endorse this software. I do at any rate.

I would really like to see one of your Nero burn logs, it is the program that is actually doing your burning. At least that is what I'm assuming if you have both Shrink and Nero.

You just may need a good ol' AD Nero "tune-up" to get things working again.

I think you can find the burn logs in
C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.txt

There are usually a lot in there, so just post the log from your last burn attempt.

Your Nero Serial number will look like this fake one. Make sure you leave it out:
1A25-1234-56D7-ABCD-891-EF2G-34H5

They are rather long, but post the entire log.

By the way to use Shrink and Nero manually, Select hard disc folder under your target device settings in Shrink. You see that after you select Backup! and the Backup DVD menu opens. I have a folder on my desktop called Shrink_Target just for this sort of thing.

With Nero, you need to open Nero Burning ROM, Select DVD, then Select the DVD-Video Icon on the left.
Select New then browse for your Shrink_Target folder. Click the files to install them in Burning ROM. Once in Nero, Right click the files and select "Select All". Right click 'em again. Select "Copy to Compilation". They should all jump over to the left. Put in a blank, select the burn icon, set your burn speed and select burn.

There are lots of guides for this.
Here is bbmayo's:
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/burn%20with%20nero.pdf

Just remember to put your blank in before trying to set the burn speed!

Cheers,
Frank

The problem is I have any dvd and still nothing. As far as the movie im trying to burn it doesnt make a difference. It could be from any studio, new or old movies it is just not burning them on the discs. I can get up to the menu or if no menu the first 45 seconds of the movie then it goes to crap. I've checked out decryptor and vobblanker and all that but i'm looking for something easy to use and deal with. There has got to be something out there that will allow people to just burn movies with a minimum of fuss.

What is the make and model of your burner, when was the last time you updated your firmware on it? What brand of media are you using, what speed are you burning at? What version of Nero are you using? Did you do what fasfrank suggested on how to choose the file in Nero, or dl the trial of AnyDVD and CloneDVD which are user friendly? Post a Nero log of your burn if you can, it can be found in My Computer/Program Files/Ahead/Nero/Nero history if you are using Nero 6, if using ver 7 then look in Program Files/Nero/Core and you should find the Nero history.

sony dvd 800A last updated a week ago, fujifilm discs + and the version of Nero that came with the burner. I've used all those programs. I have AnyDVD, ive seen vobblanker, tried decryptor. Once again, It has worked before. Then it just stopped. I've reloaded the programs in case that was the problem but still does the same thing. DVD burner works fine for burning music or programs and I can create dvd movies with video clips alredy downloaded or pictures and make a slide show through Nero so I know the problem has to be with one of those programs.

Have you tried Nero Recode instead of Shrink to compress and burn your DVD?

If you are looking for easy try CloneDVD from Slysoft. It has a free 21 day trial. There may be better programs to do the same job, but I don't think one could be any easier. If you already have AnyDVD this would make your backing up stress free.

If I can learn here so can you.

An easy way is to create an ISO image file with Shrink and then burn it with ImgBurn.

Shrink with Decrypter as auto burn is all I use on 98% of my movie backups. The only other program I use once in awhile is DVDFab Decrypter on some newer ones. Works great together with each other and free.

ARNIEBEAR -

How can the Nero work? I try anythin with it and it recognizes the copyprotection and doesn't seem to allow anything for me. To be honest though I haven't try Nero recoding. I just want to know before i try because I am wasting to many discs trying to solve this problem.

If you have AnyDVD then run it in the background with Nero. Nero will then not see any copy protection. The easiest programs are AnyDVD and CloneDVD, dl the trial of these programs and see if they work. If you still are having problems there is something else going on.

There are other choices out there besides Nero. Nero is a big sprawling program with many features you may or may not need. It also requires a correct set up and usage.
I never liked those "OEM" Nero versions that come with burners.
For one thing the OEMs are created specifically for the burner it came with.
Not only will it not work with another burner but it will have only a partial number of the programs.
In general you get Nero Express which may or may not work. You may or may not get the DVD-Video plug-in. You usually don't get the "real" DVD burning program, Burning ROM. Some have Recode, others don't.

I think Nero is getting out of touch, When they started adding that spam yahoo toolbar, Nero Scout and Nero Home I think they went to far. I don't like it when a program acts like its taking over my computer. The fact is, that during Nero 7 installation, extra steps must be taken to NOT install these items as well as going down the list of files you don't want Nero to take over.

All that being said, it is still my favorite burning program and puts out a very impressive log file for those who like that sort of thing.

My opinion is that if you want to use Nero, buy the serial number and get the entire thing. If you just need a burning program I would agree with arniebear(as always):) that CloneDVD with AnyDVD in the background is the way to go. It is fast, simple and reliable with good support from one of my favorite bunch of folks, Slysoft.
I also like VSOs CopytoDVD3 because Shrink will open it just like it does with Nero or Decrypter. It is very simple and reliable.
