I have a Sony dvd rw dru-500a drive. I tried using Playo DVD-R 8x and they did not work. I just purchased TDK +R 8x but I don't want to open them if they are not going to work. Does anyone know if these are compatible. My latest firmware update is 2.0G

Taiyo Yuden and verbatims are the best reccomended media on this site I use sony MIJ and they work great

Never heard of "Playo" before! They could just be bad quality discs. Not sure if TDK are OK, just did a quick search on the site & they get a mixed reception, mostly not very good! Verbatim plus life discs are OK, but most here, including myself like Taiyo yuden.
Just remember to burn at 4x, not 8x.

BTW, I always had probs with the dash (-) format, so now I just use the plus (+) format. It tends to be more compatible with todays systems.

yours is a -/+ drive so you should be able to use both theoretically

High Quality media does make a difference, only Taiyo Yuden for me. Aproaching 1,000 burns & only one Coaster. Get them here cheap www.supermedia.com
