Anyone notice how they finally started selling dvd+r DLs in stores and they're actually affordable? It's great. Sort of ends all this pissing around about transcoding this and ifo that.

Indeed when single layer media of high quality can be had for.20 to .50 cents or so each on sale ! But they are coming down ever so slowly ! Hek! I remember that not to too Many years ago that Regular Computer Blank CDRs and I'm talking the 74 minute kind were like $1.00 or more each ! The So Called Audio CDR's for CD audio /stand alone recorders were $ 5.00 a piece if you could find some ! And now we can get Quality CDR-80 minute disc for a few pennies each given a good sale or rebate or at the most for slightly under the current price of Good dvd media that we pay now ! I've seen a 100Ct. Spindle of Maxell CDR-80's at a local Biglots Store for $ 10.00 recently ! I would have bought them But My CDR supply runneth over Big-TIME ! Will DVD+DL & or DVD-R-Dl media ever become as inexpensive as Single Layer Disc? I don't know ? but the nice thing is that almost all the newer DVD burners sold are DVD+R Dl capable at the very least ! and some can ever do lighscribe media ! which is also expensive Albeit not as much as DVD+R DL media! So when the price comes down we're ready Right? With perhaps a firmware upgrade or two inbetween! I just wish That the price of gasoline would drop as much as the price of media ! ( High octane !) for .30 to .50cents a gallon Yeah ! I'm down for that But doubt that it will happen ! And the price of a gallon of Milk is more expensive than the Price of a Gallon of gas They keep saying! Which even if true is really immaterial as Internal Combustion engines don't run on milk! well I'm starting to wander off topic here so , Here goes ! Blue=Ray & HD-DVD are Poised on the horizon! So as they mature to the Consumer electronics market we may see the price on DL media drop to compete with them albeit on an uneven field ! The chinese have a saying /Blessing/Curse -take your pick ! "" may you live in interesting times " or as Artie Johnson used to Say " Very Interesting!" Good Luck & Good BUYS ! everyone !

well the DVD DL (DVD9) will become inexpensive but it will take a while because the Blu-ray disc technology is almost here

it's just like the time when the DVD DL (DVD9) came out & the Single Layer disc (DVD5) became extremely cheap

I remember back in the late 90's when set top DVD recorders were $1000 and blank SL discs, (only -R and -RW were available) cost $10 each ... when you could find them

Just wait till the HD-DVD and blue ray formats come out. Not to mention holographic discs will be 300 gig around september, and 1.3 Terabytes sometime next year. So are 4.7 and dual layer discs will be like CD-R format price shortly. Storm~

I worked my way through college by working in a gas station. There was only regular ($.35 gal) and premim ($.38 gal). Of course, a fully loaded Caddy DeVille was only $7k!

Didn't know that Maxell made Full Hub Printables.

The thing to remember about Blu-ray is that it is a propriatary format. Sony owns it like microsoft owns windows. If they even release burners for the format, which they've actually not indicated yet.(Only the drives and players to read discs) The media would probably not be produced for significantly lower prices by competitiors, because they legally couldn't sell it without permission, due to such a restricitive format legalities.

Which means paying royalties, just like film companies had to do with UMD movies for the Sony PSP. Ironically, the big companies pulled out of UMDs except for a few 'Select Chosen Titles that will be produced'.

HD-DVD is not a propriatary format. So.... It will most likely be more publicly available much quicker. Here's hoping.

This isn't an argument that one is better than the other. I'm not here to start that argument up, and I ask that no one following me does that.

I simply stated what has been *officially* confirmed already. There are no opinions here. And posting your passionate opinions about which format will succeed is not necessary or wanted here.

As for the holograph discs mentioned earlier, I have not heard about this; and it is rather interesting. I am curious to hear more about this.
