I have been using AnyDVD + DVD Shrink and Nero 7 to make backups of DVDs for some time now. I know however, that this combo does not create backups with the best quality, compared to say an encoder such as DVD-RB. The main reason I like using DVD Shrink is that I can re author the DVD and only copy the movie and audio I want.. I don't have to copy the special features, sub titles, menus, etc.
So, I am wondering what is the best combo of programs to create the best quality backups on 4.7gb DVDs with the ability to include only the components I wish?
I'm a long time user of DVD Shrink but have recently started using Nero Recode...it is made by the same fella that gave us DVD Shrink, so it works very similarly and the quality is about the same if not a little better. It is also a little faster than DVD Shrink.
how about an encoder than can re-author? I'm interested because DVD Shrink doesn't do the greatest job of compressing large movies like king kong, narnia, war of the worlds.. all of which are over 7gb uncompressed without extras.
You can use VobBlanker (a FREE tool) that can "strip, cut, edit and blank out" any unwanted junks/craps (i.e. FBI Warnings, rating screens/logos, previews/trailers, directors commentary, extra, etc.) flawlessly. Furthermore, you can even "play/view" any of the VTS to see what it is, and if you don't like it, then simply "blank it out" or if you're an advanced user, you can "strip or cut" out as much as your desire and still have a fully working original menu.
Even if I owned DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP, I still have VobBlanker to "process" and "blank out" any unwanted junks in prior to load/import into DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP for the encoding process. However, I do keep very few of the extra (deleted scenes or anything that I'm interested) that I want only, otherwise, I'll have VobBlanker "blank" those junks out.
I did "King Kong, Chronicles of Narnia, Memoirs of a Geisha, The God Father, Scarface, HEAT" with DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP with "3 passes" and burned on YUDEN000T02 (8X DVD+R disc), and the results are awesome. Yes, even with my 55" Widescreeen SONY HDTV, I can't tell any differences from my backups and the originals.

ok sounds good. I think I have vobblanker already.. I'll give it a shot to blank out what I don't want, then load it up to dvd-rb + CCE. thanks for the reply!
