Note i am a newbie in this field regarding modchips...

Tommorow im going to have my v9 ps2 modded by a guy. He's going to install a matrix chip and i asked about the "romeo mod" since i heard the V9 ps2's requre it. All together with the "romeo mod" plus the matrix isntallation plus labour will be 95 dollars with no game. Now i clearly stated with our phone conversation that i would like a mod chip that will allow me to turn it off for online play and he said sure the matrix chip will do. Now my question is about fake matrix chips, do fake matrix chips allow the user to turn itself off or only real ones do. If fake chips are able to turn off how will i know if the matrix chip will be a fake?

Also another little question, should the guy do the "romeo mod" first or install the matrix chip first... this is just to see what the community thinks.

THANKS, Nicky

I don't recommend getting the clone Matrix because it will not let you upgrade the firmware. I know there a lot of faults in the clone one, but I don't remember on top of my head. The "romeo mod" is a MUST for a v9 ps2. If not, your laser will die in the next couple of months. $95 is a little expensive for a clone matrix.

go with the trusted chips mentioned here before....read the guides that are posted on top...if u cant afford the real matrix go with a crystal chip 1.1...it auto patched the games so u can go online with the chip on :)....and its fairly cheap 2

Where's your area? I'd agree that 95 is a bit high. Especially if it's a clone or a no-name chip.

I researched it and i only found one person that had a problem with it he had a chinese ps2 but everywhere else i looked the only problems i came across is that the chip couldnt play psx camcom games properly LMAO. other than that.......

If you're stuck with just the 388 or the clone, it's probally a horse a piece. There are just so many bad clones and I've never even heard of the 388. I've done a lot of installs so it's hard for me to recommend either of those 2, but if I had to I guess it'd be the clone.

he said he isntalled about 400 mp-388's in the last 2 years i guess its a chip that has not alot of features yet not alot of problems....i realized in the technology world people that are picky and want to do worthless things like watch dvd's out of region on thier ps2 get alot of problems. Whats wrong with watching a movie on a regular dvd player lol...i guess ill go with the mp-388 but he also said dat i have to order the original matrix infinity on my own and that way he can isntall it for 50.... shouldi wait an go with an original but problem is i dont know where to get an original....
