So I purchased a spindle of 50 Office Depot DVD-R 8x and a spindle of DVD-R 16x about 2 weeks ago. I open the 8x up and the second disc I pull off the top has a movie burned on to it already. So as I look thru the spindle about half way down there is another DVD with a movie burned on it. The first movie is Wax Museum made with DVD-Backup from 321 studios. The second movie is Fantastic 4 made with the same software. These were in a factory sealed wrapped spindle of 50...So is this a Treasure Hunt Contest from Office Depot? Did I Win Did I Win?....Well I guess if I did not win a million bucks with these 2 movies than they must have some poor Quality control some where in the system....

I hope you're kidding when you say this is a contest with Office Depot lol.
Anyway, you should tell the store. If you put up a big enough stink, they'll make sure to accommodate you however you want.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

yeah, office depot's return policy on blank cds are ridiculous.
i bought a pack of blank DVD-R, i think they were maxell or some terrible brand that they sell at office depot.
well i burned about 5 cds, they all were bad burns and i tossed them in the trash. so i returned the spindle (about 5 cds missing) and they gave me a full refund, no problems, no questions asked.
i wouldn't be surprised if someone stuck some random burned dvds in the splindle and returned it - heck maybe it was me.

I Noticed about two months ago how 5 different spindles of 100 packs were different heights inside, there was about a 1 inch difference between the one that looked normal and the short stack. I have never counted the number of disks on a spindle but it looked to me like the short spindle was about 10-15 disks short of being a true 100.Your observation confirms the thought that they repackage their returned disks. Anyone else notice this?

I always count the discs when I buy new spindles.
I know for a fact stores repackage returned things. We used to do it while I was still working in retail (the #1 sports retailer in USA). I know a friend that used to work in Best Buy. If discs are returned (say by a member here that knows to check the media codes when they get home), and the entire package is in good shape and nothing is missing, the store will repackage it. If the discs are returned with some missing, it'll be sold "as is." You know, these are the open items at the store that are cheaper.
Obviously, no one at the store is gonna check every single disc (especially if you're going when it's very busy). So if you buy a new spindle, burned a couple discs, then checked the code because you have a feeling the discs suck, put everything back in the spindle and return 'em, you'll have the situation mentioned by the first poster. It's very easy to reseal the product.
Again, all you gotta do is put up a big enough stink.

Just how accurate are the counts on 25, 50 and 100 packs? I've never counted them, just looked to see if the spindle appears to be full.

I agree with MrPink, and also know for a fact that major retail outlets will repackage returns. Most are "open package" and sold at a REDUCED price, which dilligaf9 should ask for.
I would probably assume the person who returned dilligaf9's package had playback problems in their home dvd player. I have 2 older players that will only play media with the booktype of dvd-rom.
BTW: open packages can be great. I recently picked up a 100 spindle of MIJ Maxells 8X dvd +r's for $19.99 CAD. The package had been dropped and the bottom of the spindle cracked. Got home and inspected each individually, the media itself was unharmed.

Well, since I've gone over to TYs, each online order has been spot on. Before that, every spindle I bought in the stores was always correct too.
I'm sure others will tell you but if you ever want to get a point across at a store, just do it when it's busy. The managers will not want to make a scene in front of everyone and if it's so busy, they'll just give you what you want (within reason) to get you out of there.

Another solution: Before you buy media, always ask about their return policy. Ask for the person's name and write it down on your bill. Even with good media, you can find the odd bad batch. I had one spindle that looked like it was packaged from the remnants left on the floor.

Played the DVDs on a stand alone player and they play fine for the first half of the movies then they have a bunch of freeze ups...Have not played them on a computer yet or did a scan..None of the 50 discs had fingerprints or smudges on them either.

Sounds like the Philips media I had, (CMC Mag )again.
Stick with TY and/or Verbatim or Ritek.
Never given me a problem.

Ahhhhhhh, but then you'd have to prove that you didn't burn them yourself. Or that they were somehow responsible for this, etc. etc.
