Recently I purchased a package off of eBay claiming to have over 50 PSP games on DVD and have since figured out that installing the games is a bit more of a challenge than I expected. As suggested per the instructions I downgraded my firmware to ver. 1.5 and installed the Fast Loader program on my PSP device. The DVD's which I received via eBay contain various gaming titles. They are all zipped. When I unzip the files using Winrar I get a series of subfolders titled "Common", "PSP", and "Title_Game." I have scoured various sites on the web in search of tutorials explaining ISO's and whatnot. It is my understanding that games can be converted into ISO images, but a UMD_DATA.BIN file must be present. At this point, I'm at a complete loss and would greatly appreciate any direction any person could provide. Such as, where is the UMD_DATA.BIN file located? How do I turn my games into ISO's? One tutorial mentioned that an ISO file would be present after unzipping the file, yet I discovered this was not true with the files I have. Once again, I'd really appreciate help, as I am sure this is a much easier process than I am making it.

hey tasha!
well first of all do you see any files with a .iso extension at the end?
2nd what games are you trying to play, because not all games can be played in iso format..

the umd.data should be present as soon as you open the iso. for instance, if you have coded arms.iso
once you click on it with WinRAR you would be inside the iso itself and you should see
psp_game folder
and a file that says umd.data.
now i am going to guess that the game you have that has the folder common, psp, and title_game is ape escape or a similar game.
when you see folders like that you are going to highlight those three folders and drop them in your root folder.
your root folder is your main directory, from where you start as soon as you click on removable drive. In your root folder you should see PSP folder and a mp_root folder. just take those three folders and drag and drop in your root folder. it should prompt you that you already have a psp folder and a game folder do you want to overwrite, just say yes to all.
then from your psp menu you should do to memory stick and you should see that game in the menu, click on it and you should be good to go.
tell me if that helped

No, I don't see any files with an .iso extension. I conducted a search on the file folder for both the UMD_DATA and the ISO and was unable to locate either.

As you suggested, I copied the 3 subfolders to the root folder on my PSP and was able to get "Ape Escape: On The Loose" to work. Thanks a ton for your help!

One more question... is it possible to shrink the size of the files so that I can put several of these games on a 2gb memory stick?

Do you know how I can achieve this using VCDROMX?

jask basically told you right, it will generally have to be in iso format for you to reduce, and then you have options
you could use umdgen which reduces the size of the iso
or you could use dax ziso loader whichdecreases the size of the iso and compresses it on your memory card.
however im baffled as why you dont have isos.
it sounds like you may have been shafted or you are over looking it.
the umd.data should be inside of the iso.
could u name like a few of the games you have that don't have the umd_data in them?

id recommend umdgen or umdripper over that program because vcromdx is a bit advanced. where as umdgen and umdripper are quite simple.

Sure can...

So far I've unzipped Ape Escape, Wipeout, and Lumines. And none of them contain a file with an .iso extension. For example, the first subfolder, "Common" contains files with a .prx extension. The subfolder "LUM_Game" (for Lumines) contains two other subfolders titled "SYSDIR" and "USRDIR" as well as an SFO file? I have no idea what SFO is. The subfolders contain various boot and DAT files - as does the "PSP" folder. I'm not quite sure what the deal is???????

You dont need to make it into isos if you dont want you could just run it using the loaders it comes with.
copy whats in "Common" to the psp in the folder PSP\COMMON if you dont have one you can create it.
In "PSP" is a folder "GAME" in that should be 2 folders with the game name copy those to your PSP\GAME folder
now copy the "Title_Game." folder to root of memory stick go to loader in GAME menu and it should work.

You could make an ISO if you want by changing "Title_Game." to PSP_GAME for all games.
PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.bin are needed to create the ISO
Any UMD_DATA.bin can be used if you cant find one private message your email to me ( little mans face in top right hand side of this message)
After you have these then you use UMDGEN to rebuild it by drag n dropping PSP_GAME &UMD_DATA.bin to right hand side of UMDGEN

ok so maybe you have the games... but for some reason they are broken up into pieces. now the games should work but i don't kno why someone would do that.
at the time this person made the cds ape escape probably couldnt not be played in iso format. cause it isnt til recently that ape escape could be played in iso format. so that game is completely normal.
however lumines should be able to be played. I have it in iso format and it works fine.
i have good news and bad news.
good news is it does sound like you have the games like i said before. but they arent in iso format.
bad news is the way they are you can only hold one game at a time on your psp,
to get lumines to work you will have to delete the common and ape escape folder in the root of your psp and then add the three lumines folders to the root of your psp and you should be able to play it in the same fashion as ape escape.
in the meantime you can take http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/194 and retrieve any umd data and start rebuilding your games into isos..
i said that you should see a psp_game and a umd.data
well when you see that lum_game.. that is psp_game its just renamed. if you rename it to psp_game and add a umd.data it should work as an iso which will let u hold more than one on your memory stick

Ok. So, for the record and just so I'm absolutely positive I understand-

I need to change the "LUM_GAME" folder so that it reads "PSP_GAME." Then I can use any UMD_DATA.bin to turn the game into an ISO?

I have installed UMDGen all ready.

So, I place the newly named PSP_GAME folder and the UMD_DATA on the right hand side of UMDGEN and let the software go to work?

Ok...more confusion. I used UMDGen to attempt to turn Lumines into an ISO. What I got was another zip file. After unzipping the file I still do not have a file with an .iso extension. What am I doing wrong?

If you did that and you got the ZIp file then you are confused the file is actually the ISO but it WILL show up as WinRAR extractable.

When you open the ISO it will have the PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.bin

OK got it. Thanks.

When I load Lumines using the UMD Emulator it stops on a second screen that says "UMD EMULATOR VO.8C - A Humma Kavula and Friends Production" and then does nothing else.

That doesn't work either. The screen goes black and nothing happens.

Hmmm you could try using fastloader,
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/90
its the previous version of umd emu some backups would work on fastloader where they wouldnt on umd emu.
This method of turning it into an iso should work in theory, but if it doesnt then youll have to run it the other way i said.

yea i did tell her that,
so for now tasha you will need to just move all the folders to your psp everytime u want to play a game.

what i would recommend is that you start re-downloading the games.
