I heard that these disk are one of the best. I purchase 100 with no problems. I purchase my second batch and so far out of 27 disc 10 good and 17 are bad. Whats up with this? I purchase from supermedia store and it is dvd-r yaiyo yusen tyg02. I think I will call supermedia and ask for a full refund and send them all back. What else would you guys suggest that will give me at least 95% good disk. thanks

I have never got them ordering from Newegg.com but I here of people on this forum talking about Tiyo Yuden Fakes. Maybe you just got a bad batch, try Verbatum. Ultimatly I would suggest going to the burners manufactor website and go with the brand they recommend becouse they have tested those brands with there firmware.

Good Luck

I use Ritek Ridata, usually bought from meritline, occasionally from other stores depending on price. Until a few months ago the "standard" was 4x, now it's 8x. I was a little worried going to the 8x's, but I still burn at 4x (15 minutes) and my success rate remains close to 100% (probably 97-98%).

One caveat -- last year I bought a batch of Ritek Ridata inkjet printable discs -- I was making some home DVDs for my mom and wanted to design nice labels and print them on my Epson. So much for that -- many of the DVDs didn't burn all the way, and now (a year later) I'm finding that discs that seemed to be OK, really aren't at all (MAJOR problems with freezing, pixelation, etc. when played). Seems like AT LEAST a 50% failure rate. I was pretty horrified since the Ritek Ridatas are normally great (no problems with ones I burned 2-3 years ago). And these were inkjet-printable discs, NOT discs with labels that I stuck on myself (I know that's a big no-no with DVDs). Luckily the DATA actually seems to be fine on the discs -- I'm able to transfer the files and re-burn the discs, but what a huge waste of money.

Just my two cents' worth. BTW I use Sony burners -- sometimes different burners seem to "like" different discs.

I've ordered the TYs from newegg many times. All have been genuine and all produced great burns.

I just ordered a 200 count of TYs from supermediastore. It should arrive tomorrow (Tuesday).

Maybe look at your burner as well.
I get TY's from SVP in the UK and can't remember when I had a TY disk fail to burn or playback.
So far I've used about 600 Taiyo Yuden disks.
Maybe try DVD identifier on the disk, and then try to rest the burn quality of a good disk and see how well your burner is writing to the disks.
I use Plextools, but I'm not sure if it works with other burners
you could try DVDinfo tool from here

My personal experiences are TYs are the best...I have some Verbatims, they're great, but the TYs are better, in the quality score scans...

I have over a 1000 burns now with Taiyo Yuden and I lonely had 2 disks from what I remember had problems and it was my fault not the disk!!!! I am claiming 100% success rate! the only time I had a bad burn with these babies was bad DVD stucture and that was my fault because I was first learning how to use DVDRemake and I made a mistake and didn't catch it before burning!!!! my bad!

and I'm with you, BIGTOXY69! More TY's for me ...... now I use the printables!

@ALATONY

I bought TY's 4x DVD-R from supermedia. I read somwhere that you could burn at 8x with them. Even tho they are 4x DVD-R. I tried a few at 8x and some worked and some didnt. So I have stuck with 4x burrning and all are coming out 100% working. So if you have 4x DVD-r's then dont burn faster then that.

hello, instead of making a thread i figured why not ask this here if thats ok...i got a 50 pack of mij sony 8x dvd+r, the mid reads "YUDEN000 T02 (000)", got these from sams club, they burn great no problems just curious when i look at the data side under the light i can see a darkened ring around the outer edge. now what puzzles me is this ring ranges in size from around 1/4 inch to about an inch (roughly), just wondering what does this ring represent and why is the size variable?hope that makes sense and thanx for any input.

edit: sorry could have sworn the label said 8x but i since threw it out, nero info tool tells me it can burn 2.4x 4x 8x 8.0x 12x
