I ran my dvd through dvd fab and tried dvd shrink.....when the encoding begins , it start with like 3562 hours and takes forever to encode. What can be my problem? I've tried with Chronicles of Narnia and Ed, ed, and eddie.

Whats your system setup? Cpu speed? Ram amount? IDE or SATA HD's?

Well having such a small amount of memory isn't going to help at all. Also after a few minutes of operating the true time estimated settles down. I've seen em drop from 1700 hrs to 50mins.
What are you trying to do, rip the dvd and this is taking ages? Encode to a different format? If so what format? your question is slightly unclear.
EDIT: Is your dvd drive on the same cable as your HD?

You will need to rip to HD using DVDFAB Decrypter and then use VobBlanker to correct the structural problems and then use Shrink.
Or you can use Newest version of AnyDVD and use the ripper function w/in the program and rip to HD and then use Shrink. Using the rip function enables FixVTS to correct the problems automatically

I have used DVD Fab and burned to Shrink without any issues, is there something I am missing because every time they mention using these programs they mention structual problems that need to be fixed.

I normally rip with shrink and burn with Clone DVD. I dont rate Clone DVD very highly but if you've ripped with shrink first it burns the files fine.

The structural problems is all of the crap ( blank spots etc) that the studios put on the DVD's to try to mess up the compression. Sometimes even after using AnyDVD or DVDFAB Decrypter the problems are still there and Shrink has errors processing the DVD.
AnyDVD suggests that if you have problems then use the ripper function in it as the ripper includes FixVTS which corrects the structure problems.
DVDFAB Decrypter does not have that ability so that is why you use VobBlanker

So only if DVD Shrink experienced problems encoding/compressing would I need to use this, or are these errors in viewing as opposed to during encoding.

These problems are w/ viewing and encoding. I always use VobBlanker as it only adds 5 minutes to the process. Thie is usually on the newer movies

o.k. mike, I dl'ed AnyDVD. I used it and saved it to my harddrive. Do i press the copy dvd button after it it processes? Or do I go straight to DVD Shrink and open the file? I tried that first with out hitting the copy dvd button and I get an error message saying " The system cannot find the file specified. what am i missing?

In AnyDVD to rip the DVD to HD
1. Source Directory- is the DVD drive that has the movie in it
2. Make a Folder on the Desktop and call it "Rip Movies"
3. Destination Directory- is the folder you made on the desktop and called it"Rip Movies"
4. Then click Copy DVD
Then Open Shrink> Open files and point it to "Rip Movies"

i'm still getting the same error message, I described previously, could it be something in the settings? is there another program I need to to see the .bup files ?

If this is the newest version of AnyDVD Version 5.9.5.6 then it should do the movie after the DVD is copied to the HD. You are opening Shrink after the rip and then going to Open Files? You just might have a bad press and it needs to be exchanged. What is the movie you are trying to do? I'll check this tomorrow as it is getting late here

Maybe dumb question but i have been using shrink to encode and Nero to burn. so far no problems so why pay for AnyDVD etc and go through a lot of hard ache using multiple programmes

I agree, AnyDVD removes copy protection and is useful if you're only usin clone dvd in my opinion, since using shrink to rip and an alternative to burn I have not needed AnyDVD and indeed rip many discs without using it or encountering errors.

okay , now I tried a different dvd , I ripped first with dvdshrink...it looked great then it bogged down at 22% during the encoding process. It just quit all togther . I was back where I started. I then tried ripping with AnyDVD then shrink. it ripped fine but when I backed up. The encoding process was "slug" slow. Like 5kbs slow. Does memory have anything to do with it?

Ram does matter as you need all you can get w/ Shrink. Also Cpu usage matters as if there are any other processes being used at the same time it will slow Shrink down. How much Ram do you have and what are the computer's specs. IE. Ram, CPU, Mobo, Burner name and model #

You are w/ 256 at the bare minimum w/ no processes running. Can you add more ram? Make it at least 512 at the minimum but if you can not you need to cut off all of the processes you are not using. When you rip and process a DVD unplug your Internet connection, Turn off Firewall, Antivirus and screensaver( run the time up to 500).
