OK...Heres the scoop!

I am currently using DVD shrink and taking out all the extra and backing up just the main movie track. The problem is that the quality is bad and they always skip. I can't even come close to 100% and when i did w/ Hotel Rwanda it still skipped. I was using Memorex +R and I am really not sure if the problem is in the media. I would be happy if I could just get the main track w/o the extras but would be even happier if I could do a full backup with the menu options and all the extras.

Any suggestions on backing up just the main track w/o extras in order to improve quality?

Also, if I want to do an entire backup, menus, extras etc., do i need a double layer disc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Stan

The skipping is probably due to either bad discs (which is possible with Memorex) or burning them too fast. The amount of comression you need has nothing to do with it.
You can get just the movie and menus by running your movie through vobblanker before shrink. This program will allow you to remove any of the junk you don't want like previews or extras. You can also use menushrink to convert the large motion menus into still frames and save more space.
Copying the disc with all the extras and menus is possible, but you will need to compress more to make them fit. Shrink is not really the best for extreme compression. I recommend using a program such as DVD Rebuilder. Sadly, to get everything to fit and look as it does on the original disc you will need to burn it onto a DL disc and use no compression.

Does DVD Shrink support DL disks? If so, are there any settings that you have to change?

Your problems lied with the dvd media you are using. Get rid of that memorex will stop your problems. Verbratim and taiyo yuden will be a big YES in this forum. Memorex is a BIG no no in this forum.
Try to burn your dvd at speed not more than 4x. If you want to further play safe update your dvd writer firmware.

Stan- If you were going to do a 1:1 copy (meaning no compression just copying the files from disc to disc) onto a DL disc you don't need Shrink at all. Just rip the disc and burn your disc with whatever software you have that can do it. I use Nero for this.

Although I was looking into it, I currently don't have a DL writer. I only mentioned it cause I thought it would eliminate alot of complication I was encountering, but I checked on ebay and saw how much DL disk were! Yikes :(
