Hi there ppl, have been doing a lot of reading through the forums and am still stuck, confused etc at which is the best/easiest, and especially quickest copy programme to use.
My pc specs 1.4g Celeron (yeah yeah, stop laughing cant afford to upgrade yet) 512 ram. 160g hdd.
Problem is takes me approx 2.5hrs to copy movie using shrink. I use shrink and nero, deep analysis is off.
Doesn't really matter how long movie is, still takes same time and reading your forums should be much quicker. I was told to make sure i am not in PIO mode, which i am not.
Please help the time is killing me.
a few points.
1- with your pecs, 2.5 is a little long but not so bad.
2- if you want faster, clonedvd2($40) is great but it is not shrink, then again you don't use AEC and deep analysis.
3- they are gone send you to read the rules for asking what the best is.
4- stick with shrink, it is free and great.
And try ripping the disk first to your HDD and then open with Shrink, this will also cut down on the encode time, because Shrink is not ripping from the disk. Shrink is CPU intensive, so by not ripping with Shrink should help, also you may want to try using Nero Recode instead since you have Nero. Recode is faster and not such a resource hog as Shrink.
1) Do a disk clean up
2) Defrag your HD
3) Do a ad-aware check
4) Scan for viruses
5) When copying a movie turn off your anti virus / firewall and anything else you might have running in the background.
6) When you can afford it buy a P4 or Athlon, celeron processors are crap when it comes to encoding.
Thanks for all your help, I did try going straight to hdd then use Nero. Used same disc that took 2.5hrs and done it in 1hr 10mins approx. Oh and that was turning off firewall etc.
Was told to turn everything off in the back ground and was wondering what ppl where saying, and giving myself a slap up the side of the head didn't think of my anti virus etc

Sad to say celeron is a very slow processor. I think what you need to do is to see whether you are in PIO mode instead of DMA mode.
Make sure DMA is on for all devices on all IDE channels.

yeah you are going to need a better processor and more memorey to better your times. using CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD should cut your time in half though. with this combo i can backup a shorter movie in 10 to 12 mintues max. and longer movies in about 20 to 25 minutes max. so that gives you something to shoot for when upgrading your system(per my sig.)
