Not every system will play every backup DVD and your DVD player. Also your DVD player must be compatible with whatever format of DVD your using (DVD-R or DVD+R).

What brand of media are you using to burn the disc? (poor quility media can also effect the way your satndalone player plays the DVD)

I have 3 DVD players 1 thats cheap and 2 that are around $200. When I use cheap media only 1 out of the 3 would read the disc perfectly. On the other 2 I would either get incoreect disc as an error or it would play but skip and freeze. The cheap player will play pretty much anything I put in it. But the more expensive ones have trouble reading cheap media that I use.

Also gaming system DVD drives can be very picky at what DVD's it will read. I had 3 diffrent brands of DVD's that each of my system used. (PS2, Xbox, GC) Now I use TY's and they all play perfect on my consels.

You will find that most of your succsses is if you burn with high quility media like TY's or Verbatims and most of the time it will be compatible with all DVD players you try playing in if the DVD player itself is comaptible with DVD blank media.

DVD -R are more widely accepted than +R type disks.
I would also agree with what has been said about the media quality.
Using Taiyo Yuden can see a bit of a jump considering the price difference, but if you value your backups and want to keep them for may years, then consider the extra cost a wise investment.

Just wanted to add about the price diffrence on TY;s. I actully only pay $10 more for TY then what I was paying at WalMart or Bestbuy. I get a 200 pac of them for $54 and thats with free ground shiping. So there really isnt much of a price diffrence.
