@spirrow

i'm assuming your 'playo' 8x DVD-R have the "UME01" MID coding right? made in China no less... :P

well, as to this,

all i can say is best of luck with those, i am leaning more towards the "good/fair initial burn...but deteriorate within 6 months" spiel with those playos...so sorry. :)

Playo dash 8x:UME-01
Playo plus 8x: AML-002

Staple's had a couple of sales on them,and they were around $5-$6 a spindle of 50,after rebate.

10 to 12 cents apiece,not too bad. I wouldn't pay any higher.

Here's the only scan of the Playo Plus 8x,burned at 4x,using my benq 1620:

A lot more PIF total than my sony yuden000-T02 and MCC-004,that were burned at 8x and 12x. Still ok playback,but I didn't put anything important on them-and I think I gave all the backups away, LOL

LOL, finding good deals on media is always a good thing, but for $0.15/each as you paid spirrow, i would focus on "giving them away" as quickly as you can...no offense, but the "made in china" country of origin should give you a hint as to the quality of them, whereas SOME people here on AfterDawn always say "made in taiwan" media is no good, now that "made in china" is in the picture, SOME can argue which is actually the "lesser of 2 evils now" :)

spirrow:

Here's an easy test for the quality and reliability of your backups:

Re-rip them back onto your hard drive/s,using your normal process. Too many errors,and you'll get crc errors. You don't have to go through with the burn,just try to get them back onto your harddrive in case later on you may want more copies of them.

The object is to get them onto your harddrive again,without getting crc errors.

Or dual drives: Re-rip and burn on the fly! A little more excruciating,but effective when trying to find the reliability of my backups. If I can't re-rip a backup,it does me no good.

Lol...yea according to media guide list made in china is pretty much considered garbage...i see a lot of people around here with princo discs (some of my friends back-ups)..they play fine but is considered trash too.I use Verbatim's DVD-R & burn at 8x or either 16x...good luck @spirrow
