I currntly own a single layer DVD burner. If I have a DVD less than 65% compression, I usually split it on two discs.

I need your advice on whether I should spend my money on a double layer DVD burner, or stay with what I have. The DVD burner I have now works great, but I miss not having DTS audio at times.

If I do get a double layer burner, will Shink recognize the burner or do I need to change the settings?

Thanks for your feedback.

Shrink doesn't care what burner you have. You tell it no compression and it will output the folder or ISO file, size be damned. If you aren't compressiong though, there is no reason to use DVD Shrink at all. Just rip, clean junk with vobblanker if needed, and burn away.

As cheap as dual layer are now I'd say go for it. Since shrink doesn't do the burning you probably have Nero. As long as the new drive is installed right you should have no problems w/ shrink/nero recognizing it.

You can still rip and backup any dvds/movies with DVD Decrypter, however, you have to use "PSL plugins via PgcEdit, then process any left over junks with FixVTS". FixVTS is the same as VobBlanker, but not as "powerful" as VobBlanker. If you're an advance VobBlanker user, you can simply "blank out" tons of junks (i.e. FBI Warnings, rating screens/logos, previews/trailers, directors commentary, extras, etc. and still keep the "original menu"). The choice is yours.

If you still want to go with the FREE method/route, then I highly recommend you follow and get the following FREE tools.

(1) DVDFAB Decrypter - rip the movie into your hard drive first
(2) VobBlanker - process the VIDEO_TS.IFO file for security purpose (it will fix any invalid structural or fake dummy cells)
(3) DVD Shrink - transcode as usual
(4) DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn - to burn (ISO Image only)

NOTE: when you get to step #2 or VobBlanker, do as the following steps:

(A) INPUT = browse/locate your already ripped VIDEO_TS.IFO file from hard drive

(B) OUTPUT = create another VIDEO_TS folder in your hard drive (Example: if HOSTEL is the movie you're trying to rip and process, then make a new folder name VOB_HOSTEL and a sub-folder name VIDEO_TS inside VOB_HOSTEL, so it should be: VOB_HOSTEL\VIDEO_TS for the OUTPUT.)

(C) click "PROC.ALL" at the RIGHT
(D) click "PROCESS" at the bottom

Now sit tight, relax, wait until VobBlanker is successfully completed. Once VobBlanker is done, it should created a newly/fresh file or folder into VOB_HOSTEL\VIDEO_TS. Just load/import this VIDEO_TS file into DVD Shrink and continue on with your usual transcoding process.

That's it.... it's all FREE and easy as sippin' on a Corona. Best of lucks to you and happy burning. Now-a-days, I highly recommend you rip, process and backup with this "simple/basic guide" and I GUARANTEE YOU 100% that you'll be able to successfully rip and backup any movies/dvds, regardless if it's encrypted with ARccOS or RipGuard.

NOTE: I recommend you TURN OFF DVD43, AnyDVD or other cracking engines that's running in the background, if you're "ripping" any movie(s) with DVDFAB Decrypter (the latest) -- the same thing apply to VobBlanker, when you're "processing" the "VIDEO_TS.IFO" file through VobBlanker. This way, it won't trigger or cause any errors in results.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.
